I recently applied for a position with a staffing company that partners with Blue Cross Blue Shield. The recruiter seemed very professional and provided a lot of details about the role and the hiring process, which gave me a good impression. However, towards the end of our phone call, they asked for the last five digits of my Social Security Number. I felt uneasy about this request and decided to decline. The recruiter was understanding and offered to send me a DocuSign email to provide it later when I felt comfortable. I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced something similar or if this is a common practice, especially with a reputable company like Blue Cross Blue Shield. Everything else about the opportunity seemed legitimate, but I'm cautious about sharing my SSN. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.
