I was laid off a few months ago, at the end of 2025, and received a severance package along with other benefits until the ESA end date. However, my employer did not provide my yearly bonus. They stated that I needed to be an active employee on the day the bonus is disbursed to qualify for it. I signed the full and final agreement because there was a condition that if I didn't sign by a certain date, I would lose part of my severance amount. I raised the issue with the Ontario Labour Board, but haven't received a positive response since my employer is covered by the policy and I already signed the documents. I'm looking to connect with others who have been laid off but still received their bonus as part of a full and final settlement.

I had a really unsettling experience at work today. I was called into a meeting with several supervisors, including my own, to discuss some work-related issues. During the meeting, one supervisor, who isn't even my direct boss, started yelling at me. He stood up, towered over me, and accused me of not liking him and not acknowledging his presence. It felt incredibly hostile and intimidating. I tried to explain my feelings about the situation, but he only got angrier, and the others in the room dismissed my perspective, calling me immature. I was shocked that they allowed this behavior to continue without intervening. I don't even report to this person, yet he insisted he had authority over me. I'm feeling really confused and unsafe right now, so I've decided to write a letter to management demanding a meeting to address this issue. I can't shake the feeling that they're targeting my job. This experience has made me seriously consider looking for a new job.

I recently learned about a troubling situation involving my friend at their company. They announced layoffs, and it seems like the managers who had direct involvement with my friend had already secured new positions within the company. Now, my friend is under a new manager who has a history of giving negative feedback during performance reviews. This manager is now asking my friend to retrieve emails from six months ago, which my friend can't access due to company policy that deletes older emails. The manager suggested they file a request with IT to recover them. What raised red flags for my friend was when this manager asked about their ethnicity and citizenship, which feels inappropriate and suspicious. My friend is concerned that this could be a tactic to deny them a severance package or even to push for their termination before the official layoff date. It seems like HR and the manager are working closely together, and my friend feels trapped. They’re unsure of what steps to take next in this difficult situation.

I recently started a one-year fixed-term role after wrapping up another fixed-term position. Honestly, I'm feeling mentally drained from this cycle. It seems like I'm just jumping from one temporary job to another. My experience has been frustrating, especially since I've never held a job for more than five years. A lot of that has to do with external factors and people getting in the way. My first job lasted four years until the HVAC issues at the restaurant led to its closure, which was a known problem with the building's owners. Now, I'm in a lower-paying role that feels disposable, and it's taking a toll on my motivation.

I was laid off from my job in May and just recently found a new position that starts in mid-August. During this time, I faced a lot of challenges, including financial struggles and food insecurity. Thankfully, I was approved for unemployment benefits and SNAP assistance, which has helped alleviate some of the pressure. However, the experience has revealed the true nature of some of my friendships. I reached out to a few friends for a one-time $100 loan because I was short on rent, and their responses were hurtful. One friend, who I thought I could count on, berated me for asking and questioned my situation as if I was to blame for my circumstances. He was on an expensive vacation while I was struggling to afford food and medications. After that interaction, I decided to block and delete him from my life. Another friend offered to lend me the money but made it clear that he expected repayment and questioned whether I had considered applying for jobs. This was the first time in seven years that I had asked him for help, and his condescending attitude made me realize that he may not truly value our friendship. I understand that it's okay for people to decline a loan request, but it's not acceptable to shame someone during tough times. It’s been a tough journey, and I’ve learned a lot about who my real friends are.

Today, I had a scheduled Zoom meeting for an interview at 10 AM. I logged in early, around 9:55 AM, and waited in the waiting room for about 18 minutes. After not hearing anything, I sent an email to HR at 10:13 AM to confirm I had the right link. I waited another 17 minutes without a response and eventually left the waiting room. Later, I received a message from HR explaining there was a "family tragedy" and they still wanted me to schedule an interview for another day. However, I also got an email from the CFO that seemed to imply I had missed the meeting. I'm really confused about the whole situation and wondering if this kind of communication is normal for them. Should I even respond to the CFO's email or just move on?

I just had a really unusual job interview that lasted an hour and a half. The interviewer didn't even glance at my resume or ask about my experience, which felt strange. Instead, we spent about 30 minutes chatting about Tekken before finally discussing the role itself. Surprisingly, I got the job, but it felt more like a formality than a traditional interview process. I'm feeling a mix of confusion and relief—it's a weird situation, but I'm glad to be employed!

I graduated with a 2-year diploma in IT, which covered the basics of hardware and software. While some of my classmates found jobs after graduation, I struggled to get my foot in the door. After a couple of years of searching, I decided to go back to school to further my education. Some classmates chose the co-op/internship route, and one of them landed a full-time IT job after just a couple of courses in the degree program. I wanted to follow that path, but it took me several months to secure my first co-op/internship. During that time, I opted to take one course each term to stay active as a student. The diploma program had 20 courses, and to complete the degree, I need another 20. So far, I've completed 3 courses for the degree, but the thought of finishing the remaining 17 feels overwhelming and like a huge commitment. I’m considering whether completing the degree is worth it in the long run or if I should focus on gaining experience through another co-op job and eventually applying for full-time roles in IT. I already have 8 months of experience in the field as a student, but I don’t feel confident enough to apply for full-time positions yet. I want to do another internship to learn more at a different organization. My concerns about completing the degree are significant. I need to work full-time to pay my bills, which makes it hard to take on too many courses. I can only manage 1 or 2 courses each term, which could extend my degree completion to 3-5 years. Additionally, my original credits will expire by 2028, and I need to complete those 17 courses in a year and a half. I’ve heard that the school might extend the expiry date for my first-year courses, but that’s not guaranteed. Currently, I have a weekend job as a backup since co-op positions are temporary. I can’t risk being jobless if my co-op ends, so I’m working every day. I’m also 30 years old and feel like I haven’t truly started my career yet. I barely have time to socialize, which is tough because I want to get married but haven’t found someone yet. Some people say we should enjoy our youth, but I’m not enjoying it at all due to my busy schedule. In summary, I’m torn between investing time, money, and effort into completing my degree or focusing on gaining practical experience and possibly pursuing certifications to advance in the IT field.

I’m feeling really down about my job situation right now. I currently work at a hotel front desk, and honestly, I hate it. This is my first job after being a caretaker for a disabled family member, which was unpaid. I’m exhausted all the time and I get burnt out quickly. I want to quit, but I can’t find another job. I've applied to around 40 positions and only got interviews for a few, and the only job I landed was this one. The problem is, the jobs available in my area are either ones I’m unqualified for or roles that I know I wouldn’t enjoy at all. Plus, I can’t move to another city since I already relocated to get away from home. I studied history in school, but I’m not sure if I want to pursue a master’s degree, and there aren’t any history-related jobs available. It’s mostly food service or roles I just don’t qualify for. I’ve started noticing memory issues and I feel constantly drained. I think it’s because my current job isn’t stimulating or interesting enough for me. I feel like I’m losing my sharpness and I forget things more often than I used to. This is just me venting, and I’m not even sure if any of this makes sense. I just feel stuck and overwhelmed.

I worked in North Carolina from March until the end of July, and my job is ending next week due to lack of work. I started receiving my checks in April, but I’m trying to figure out when to apply for unemployment benefits. I understand that North Carolina requires work from two different quarters to qualify. So far, I have earnings from April to June and then July. My main question is about the timing of my application: should I wait until all my earnings are reported by my employer, or can I apply sooner to ensure that both quarters are counted? I'm feeling a bit uncertain about the process.

I recently signed an offer for a new job that marks my exit from a long career in education, which is incredibly exciting for me. However, I'm currently facing a frustrating delay with my drug test results. I submitted my urine sample at Quest Diagnostics ten days ago, and while I was informed that the results usually take 24-48 hours, I'm still waiting. First Advantage completed my background check within 72 hours, but they are now in a holding pattern waiting for the drug test results. I don't use any drugs at all, so I’m feeling anxious about the possibility of something going wrong, like an inconclusive result or a false positive, which I've heard can happen. I’m worried that a mistake on their part could jeopardize my new job opportunity. Has anyone else experienced a significant delay in drug test results that ended up being fine? How long did you have to wait before you received your results?

I recently went through a frustrating experience with my unemployment benefits after being let go from my job in Texas. My former employer falsely claimed to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) that I had quit, and later said I was fired for misconduct, which was completely untrue. I was terminated without any reason given. During my initial hearing, the officer assigned to my case barely documented anything, and the information he did include was confusing. As a result, TWC denied my benefits. I decided to appeal the decision and had my hearing with my former employer this week. Unfortunately, the ruling was once again in favor of the employer, despite the fact that he lied during the hearing and presented fabricated evidence without any credible details. I remained focused on the facts, believing that the burden of proof was on him, but it seems like the system is not working in my favor. I filed another appeal, but I’m feeling overwhelmed and frustrated with the whole process. It’s like I’m in Crazytown, and I’m not sure what more I can do if the system isn’t listening or doing its job.

I recently came across a discussion about recruiters who ghost applicants after interviews, and it really struck a chord with me. I've experienced this firsthand and it can be incredibly frustrating. There's apparently a list circulating that identifies these recruiters, but I'm not sure if it's legitimate or just a rumor. Either way, I find it interesting and it could potentially help others avoid wasting their time with companies that don't follow up. It’s disheartening to put in the effort for an interview and then hear nothing back. I hope this list, if real, can help us navigate the job search more effectively.

I recently faced a frustrating situation after being laid off from my job in Maryland. My employer claimed that I voluntarily quit, which is completely false. I was terminated without any misconduct on my part, yet they provided misleading information to the Department of Labor. I reached out to HR for a corrected termination letter, but they suggested I escalate it to management instead. I'm still waiting for a response. I spoke with an Ombudsman who explained that during the initial adjudication process, neither party is under oath, which means my employer can provide any reason for my termination without facing penalties. This feels incredibly unfair, especially since I did not quit and have no proof of their claims. I'm feeling really overwhelmed and frustrated by the whole situation, as I just want to clarify the truth and move forward.

I recently realized that I forgot to include a 1099 gig in my unemployment claim. I did a contracted social media job from March 10 to June 2, and I was paid for it on July 13. Unfortunately, I was let go from my W2 job on June 4, which is the job I filed my claim for. So far, I've only received one payment from EDD on July 23. I'm feeling stressed about this oversight and I'm unsure how to amend my claim to include the 1099 work. I can't call them today since they're closed, so I'm hoping to get some advice on what to expect moving forward.

I recently experienced a situation where I was informed by my scheduling manager that the program I was working on was closing down. This has happened to me twice now with different companies, and it has left me questioning the honesty of my managers. Are they genuinely telling me that there are no clients available in my area, or are they just trying to phase me out? It's a frustrating position to be in, and I’m trying to figure out if this is a common tactic in the industry.

I worked as a contractor for a company from December 2024 to March 2025, but they didn’t have the budget to keep me on after that. They brought me back from June 2025 until April 2026, during which my manager tried to get me a full-time position. He assured me that if they ever had the budget, I would be the first person they would approach before posting the job publicly. Fast forward to almost August, and I noticed a job posting for my position on Indeed, but no one reached out to me about it. I had received a letter of recommendation, personal references from directors, and promises from my team that they wanted to hire me full-time and stop dragging me around on contracts. Colleagues even expressed that they missed me after my contract ended. I'm trying to understand why this happened and would appreciate insights from recruiters or others in similar situations.

I recently completed week 4 of my outplacement experience after being laid off from my role at a tech company. The program has been quite insightful, providing resources and support as I navigate my job search. I've been focusing on refining my resume and LinkedIn profile, and I've also had the opportunity to participate in several networking events. The guidance from career coaches has been invaluable, helping me to develop my interview skills and approach potential employers with confidence. With just 8 weeks left in the program, I’m feeling hopeful and motivated to secure a new position soon.

I recently experienced a layoff from my IT position where I was earning $150,000. After months of searching for a new role that matched my skills and salary, I had to accept a full-time job at Target making just $17/hour. While I am technically employed now, the reality is that my financial situation has drastically changed. I see many others in similar situations—highly qualified professionals who have lost their jobs and are now working in retail, warehouses, or gig jobs just to make ends meet. It's frustrating because the labor statistics don't reflect the true impact of these layoffs. They only measure whether someone is employed, not whether that job can sustain a decent standard of living. I’ve exhausted my savings, drained my retirement accounts, and have had to rely on credit cards to cover basic necessities. It feels like I’m one missed paycheck or unexpected medical bill away from financial disaster. The narrative around unemployment doesn’t capture the downward mobility many of us are experiencing. We may still be classified as employed, but the middle class is quietly collapsing, and I fear this will be remembered as a crisis of economic security rather than just unemployment.
