I am starting a BSc in business this September, which is just a couple of weeks away. The program is fully remote, with only 2-3 in-person meetups with a professor each semester for project check-ins and exam prep. While I see myself as a student, many people might not view it that way since I am primarily learning from textbooks and pre-recorded lectures at home. Because of this, I’m not eligible for government assistance or student housing, which adds to the confusion. I’m currently employed and casually looking for new job opportunities because I want to move away from customer service. However, I haven't mentioned my degree plans to my boss, as I worry it might affect my current job. I’m conflicted about whether to include my ongoing degree on my CV. On one hand, having only a high school diploma limits my job prospects, but on the other hand, I fear that listing my degree might lead employers to see me strictly as a student, which could hurt my chances of getting hired for full-time roles.

I recently started my first corporate job after leaving retail due to chronic pain. Unfortunately, the company I work for has a pretty bad public image, which makes me anxious about my future job prospects once I finish school this September. I know that many people might judge me for working at a company with a shady reputation, and I worry that my resume will be filtered out because of it. I’m trying to figure out how to present my experience in a way that highlights my skills and what I learned, without drawing too much attention to the negative aspects of the company. If I make it to an interview, I fear that the hiring manager's personal experiences with my current employer could affect their perception of me. I want to be honest about my journey but also steer the conversation towards my strengths and what I can bring to a new role. It’s a tough situation, but I’m determined to navigate it as best I can.
