I just experienced a tough setback in my job search after going through a grueling five-stage interview process for a position I was really excited about. It started with a recruiter interview, followed by a hiring manager interview, and then I tackled a 72-hour take-home assessment. After that, I presented to a panel and finally had an interview with the COO. The process even hit a pause for two weeks, but they reached out to continue with me, which gave me hope. However, the day after my interview with the COO, I received a generic rejection email stating they were moving forward with candidates who were a 'better match.' I understand that reaching the final stages doesn’t guarantee an offer, but after investing so much unpaid time and effort, receiving such a vague rejection without any feedback feels incredibly disheartening. Right now, I’m feeling really sad and drained, and I’m not sure I have the energy to dive back into more interviews.

It's been a week since I completed my panel presentation for a Business Operations role at a scaling startup in the US, and I'm starting to feel anxious about the lack of updates. The hiring process was incredibly fast up until now: I had a recruiter reach out right after I applied, followed by an interview with the Chief of Staff the next day. After that, I was given an assessment to complete within three days, and then I had to present my rollout strategy the day after that. During the panel, I discussed trade-offs, capacity allocation, and dependency management in detail. They mentioned they would be in touch and encouraged me to send any follow-up questions via email. I did reach out with a refined reflection on one of the scenarios we discussed, but I haven't heard back yet. I'm wondering if it's normal for the decision-making process to slow down after the panel stage, especially since the initial stages moved so quickly. Does this mean they might be interviewing other candidates or are they just taking their time to finalize an offer? I'm really hoping to hear back soon!

I need to vent about my recent interview experience. I was interviewing for a Right Hand / Delivery Ops & PM role directly reporting to the CEO at a startup. I felt really good about the process; I passed the initial recruiter screening and the HR interview without any issues. The vibe with HR was fantastic, and I was feeling confident as I moved forward. Yesterday, I had my final interview with the CEO, who is the typical "creative visionary" type. We had a great conversation, and I answered his operational riddles well. At the end of the call, he told me, "I absolutely loved talking to you, I really love the way you think and how your brain works." I was on cloud nine, thinking I might have finally landed the job. But then he dropped the bomb: "BUT we have a lot of strong candidates, so we'll see. HR will let you know by Wednesday." That was a gut punch. He didn't even reply to my thank you email afterwards, leaving me anxious as I wait for Wednesday. I went from feeling like the job was in the bag to feeling like I want to crawl into a hole. Now I'm just preparing myself for either rejection or being ghosted. It's such a rollercoaster, and I'm trying to keep my head up while also looking for other opportunities.
