I’m feeling really frustrated with the job market in the UK right now. I've spent over a decade working in retail and had no issues finding jobs before COVID hit. Since 2021, however, I've faced a series of unsuccessful job attempts that have really shaken my confidence. I've done everything asked of me, but I keep failing probation periods, which are typically 3-5 months for sales assistant roles. One time, I was wrongfully fired because my manager didn’t like me, and after going through ACAS, I received a decent payout to avoid court. I also quit a job recently without having another lined up because it was making me miserable, which is something I’ve never done before, as I usually pride myself on my resilience. My last position was at Lush, but it was only seasonal, and my contract ended. I've been applying for jobs for months now—literally anything I can find—but nothing seems to be working out. I don't have experience in hospitality or bar work, but I've been applying anyway. It’s frustrating that so many of these roles require 1-2 years of experience, which feels impossible to obtain when I can't even get my foot in the door! I feel like every job I land doesn't last, and I’m doing my best to just find something stable. I've been rejected from hundreds of positions, and it feels so helpless. I consider myself friendly and confident, and I perform well in interviews, but I either can’t pass the intense probation periods or get rejected shortly after applying. I’m also really tired of AI interviews; I want to speak to a real person! Financially, I’m struggling. I’m maxed out on my overdraft of £250 and owe my dad some money. Thankfully, I still live at home, but I’m desperate to move out, especially with the housing crisis in the UK. I’m scraping by on a minimal amount from universal credit, and I feel embarrassed about my situation. I just want a permanent job that offers more than 7 hours a week. I’ve even considered shifting to a different career path, but I lack the experience to move beyond retail. I’m not sure if there’s any advice out there, but I just needed to vent and hope that someone else can relate to what I’m going through.

I just found myself unemployed for the second time, and I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed. Back in 2025, I was out of work for six months and exhausted almost all my unemployment benefits. I managed to secure a job, but unfortunately, I was laid off again due to an acquisition. Now, I'm trying to reapply for unemployment benefits, but when I log into my portal, it only prompts me to certify my previous claims instead of allowing me to file a new application. I've been employed for the last ten months, so I believe I should qualify for benefits again. I attempted to call for assistance, but no one picked up. I'm really in need of some guidance on what to do next.

I have a growing concern that my company is preparing to outsource. I work at the headquarters of a firm, and I've recently realized that the lease for our building wasn't renewed. A few months back, we were told to expect information about a new location by the end of the year, but now I'm starting to doubt there will even be a new site. Over the past two months, four positions in my department have been terminated, and they have no plans to fill those roles due to economic reasons. They've assured us that 'no one else's job will be affected,' but it feels increasingly uncertain. Additionally, they've brought in about four temporary workers without any intention of making them permanent. Recently, we had a major promotion that offered 50-70% off for customers willing to double their orders, which seems like a desperate move. A year ago, they let go of about 90% of our US accounting department and replaced them with workers in Costa Rica. I'm unsure how long this outsourcing process typically takes or how soon I should start looking for another job. It seems like no one else in my department has caught on to these changes, and there hasn't been any discussion about it in the office.

I recently lost my position after going through a performance improvement plan, even though I was meeting or exceeding expectations. It feels really unfair, and I'm struggling to process it all. I’ve been looking for new opportunities, but it’s proving to be quite painful. I’ve seen others share similar experiences, where the PIP was just a way for the company to push them out despite their performance. I'm trying to stay positive and remind myself that a job is just a job, but it's tough right now. I know I need to take some time to heal and focus on moving forward.

I got laid off today from my role at a startup due to a pivot in the company's direction. I woke up to a message saying, "let's have a conversation once you're online," and I honestly wasn't expecting it to be about my job. During the call, my founder explained that fundraising has become challenging for our category, and the company doesn't have enough runway to continue in the current direction. This news hit hard because leaving a job wasn't an option for me; I'm funding the education of my two siblings. However, my time at this early-stage startup was incredibly valuable. In just a few months, I learned more than I had in years of traditional marketing. I worked on various projects, including go-to-market strategy, founder-led marketing, Reddit distribution, LinkedIn and X content, outreach, product positioning, AI workflows, and directly communicating with users to refine our messaging. One positive takeaway is that my founder offered to refer me to other companies, which I truly appreciate. Now, I'm actively searching for my next opportunity. If anyone is building an early-stage startup and needs someone who thrives on figuring out growth, GTM, and distribution from scratch, I'd love to connect.

I recently had a series of screening calls that left me feeling uncertain about how to navigate the interview process, particularly regarding what recruiters want to hear. My first call was for an events position at a hostel company. The recruiter asked if I intended to stay with the company after my internship. I sensed she was hoping for a positive answer, but since I’m applying for jobs in a foreign country and am on a visa, I honestly said I wasn’t sure. This led to her saying, "Oh, we’ll let you know the result on Friday!" which I interpreted as a rejection. My second screening was for an event-related role at a med tech company. The recruiter inquired about my experience with booking hotels. I shared that I had organized expos but didn’t have direct experience representing a specific company. I think my honesty here didn’t work in my favor, as I was rejected again. The third call was for a communications and creative marketing role at a charity. I prepared thoroughly and referenced a relevant campaign from my past experience. During the panel interview, I felt good about my contributions until they asked me to critique one of their social media posts. I froze up because I believed their strategy was misaligned with their target audience, but I didn’t have the courage to express that directly. Instead, I gave a vague answer about improving engagement, which didn’t seem to impress them. I’ve noticed a pattern where my international experience sometimes doesn’t resonate with recruiters, possibly because it’s not aligned with their expectations. As someone who is neurodivergent, I struggle to read social cues, which complicates things further. I’m looking for advice on how to improve my interview skills and better align my responses with what recruiters are looking for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I've been on the job hunt for over a year now, and I just had to vent about something that's been driving me crazy. Whenever I upload my resume to job sites, they always try to auto-import the data, and it never works for me. It's so frustrating! I end up having to fix everything manually anyway, which defeats the purpose. I've missed critical details because the auto-import puts information in the wrong fields. It's just exhausting. I wish these websites would stop this feature altogether. If I have to retype everything, I'd rather do it from scratch than deal with their faulty parsing. Has anyone else faced this issue? It feels like I'm the only one who's annoyed by it.

Today, I faced a really challenging situation regarding my husband's job. He has been working as a delivery driver for a local company for the past 11 months, and the convenience of the job was a huge factor in our decision for him to take it, given that the location is just a 3-minute commute from our home. We share one vehicle, so I drop him off every morning while managing our kids' schedules, especially our daughter who has multiple appointments due to her disabilities. This morning, he was informed that starting tomorrow, he would need to report to a different store for deliveries—40 minutes away without traffic, which can easily turn into an hour and a half during peak times. This change was communicated with less than 24 hours' notice, and to make matters worse, there’s no pay increase associated with this transfer. The manager's response to our situation was dismissive, suggesting I could just drop him off, completely overlooking the logistical nightmare that would create for our family. Feeling frustrated and trapped, my husband is considering calling out sick and using his PTO while he searches for a new job. We’re living paycheck to paycheck, and he’s the primary breadwinner. The thought of unemployment benefits in Florida is disheartening, as they max out at just $275 a week, which is far from enough to support our family, especially with our grocery expenses being around $400 weekly. I'm currently trying to navigate through the job handbook to understand his rights and options. Any advice or guidance from those who have been in similar situations would be greatly appreciated.

I've been in the job market for a while now, with over 7 years of experience in Sales and Supply Chain across India and Canada. Currently based in Vadodara, I'm finding it really challenging to secure a role that feels like a step up from where I am. Most of the interviews I've had either don’t align with my level of experience, or I simply don’t hear back after applying. I'm also considering a pivot into recruiting, but I'm unsure if that's a wise move or if I'm just overthinking it. I'm reaching out to see if anyone has successfully leveled up or switched fields and can share how they got recruiters to take their diverse experience seriously. Do referrals actually make a significant difference compared to cold applications? Is transitioning from sales to recruiting a realistic option, or could it potentially set me back in my career? I'm also curious about any insights regarding the job market in India for 2026. I appreciate any blunt feedback or advice!

I recently faced a frustrating situation with my unemployment benefits in Colorado. Initially, I was denied benefits, but after appealing the decision, I had a hearing on June 6th and received a letter confirming that I had won the appeal and would be granted benefits. However, just a month later, on July 11th, I received another letter stating that the previous decision was corrected and that I would not be awarded benefits after all. I'm confused and concerned about this change. The first letter mentioned that the decision was final unless appealed within 20 days, so I’m wondering if they are even allowed to do this. It seems like they are claiming it was a clerical error, but I feel like the agency is stepping outside of their procedural limits. I'm looking for advice on what recourse I might have in this situation.

I was recently laid off from my position as a Software Developer. I'm currently seeking advice on what my next steps should be. I have 1.5 years of experience working with Java backend development. I'm considering taking some time to rest and reflect on my career path. I plan to update my resume and start applying for unemployment benefits. I've been advised to reach out to my network for potential opportunities and to think about whether I want to continue in software development or explore a different career path altogether. If anyone has leads or advice, I would greatly appreciate it!

My girlfriend recently faced a tough situation at her job at a unionized grocery store. After her hours were cut, she was asked to switch departments. Although she was uncertain, they moved her into the new role without waiting for her decision. She started training but soon encountered issues with the new store director, who rushed her through the process and made disrespectful comments about her in front of others. Feeling uncomfortable, she decided to opt out of the new department, which led to her being assigned zero hours for the week. We're both wondering if this treatment is legal and what options she might have to address this situation.

Today, I was terminated from my role as a Junior Designer at a company where I initially joined as a UI/UX Design Intern in mid-November. I was given a month of notice, but I'm left feeling a mix of emotions—mostly anger and confusion. I had hoped to transition into a full-time position after my internship, which was extended for a month for performance evaluation. In April, I was moved to a Designer Trainee role, and by May, I was working as a full-time Junior Designer. However, after just two months in that role, they let me go, citing performance issues. The job wasn't what I expected. I started with the intention of focusing on UI/UX design for apps and websites, but my responsibilities shifted significantly. I ended up creating social media posts, writing AI-assisted blogs, and making PowerPoint presentations, which felt far removed from my original role. Now, I'm facing the daunting task of job hunting again. I'm also unsure how to handle any follow-up calls from my manager, HR, or even the founder regarding my termination. I want to remain calm and professional during those conversations, but I also want to ask important questions without sounding defensive or upset. This is my first experience with being let go, and I could really use some advice on how to navigate this situation.

I just got laid off from my job in commercial printing, where I had been working for the past two years. Lately, things had been really slow, and I had a feeling layoffs were coming, but I hoped I wouldn't be the one affected. I was more of a jack of all trades at the company, handling a bit of everything, but it seems like that wasn't enough to secure my position. They are paying me for the rest of the week, but that's it. At least they said I could use them for referrals, which is a small consolation. During my conversation with my boss, he mentioned that I had discussed wages with other employees, which he deemed inappropriate. This conversation happened over six months ago, and I was never told it was an issue until now. I’ve always received positive feedback and never faced any disciplinary actions related to my performance. I could have brought up a serious issue regarding a coworker who was harassing another employee, but I didn't want to deflect from my own situation or put anyone else in an awkward position. Now, I'm feeling lost and betrayed. This was unexpected, and I'm really concerned about what the future holds for me.

I'm starting a new job next week, and it's finally starting to sink in that I actually succeeded in the interview process. However, I’m feeling a bit ambivalent about it all. It usually takes me about 5-7 business days for significant events in my life to fully register, and today I found myself dissociating at my current job, which I will be leaving soon. Saying goodbye to my colleagues is proving to be a challenge, and I'm unsure how to navigate that. I think I’m excited about the new opportunity, but there's also a touch of sadness about leaving my current role.

I recently found myself unemployed in South Carolina and was looking into the possibility of extending my unemployment benefits. I reached out to the local office, but unfortunately, they informed me that there are no extensions available at this time. It's been a tough situation trying to navigate the job market and manage finances without that support.

I recently found myself without a job after nearly a decade of working in the family business. I started as a manager at a truck accessories and spray-on bedliner company, leaving a corporate job that was undergoing massive layoffs. Initially, my father-in-law matched my salary, and I eventually earned around $86,000 a year as the general manager. However, after about eight years, he decided to sell the business. There was some talk of selling it to me, but a buyer with deeper pockets came in instead. I then worked for the new owner for about six months before my father-in-law recruited me to join his new franchise vehicle repair business, again matching my salary. Unfortunately, after nine months, it became clear that this new venture was not sustainable, and he had to close it down. Now, my family and I are in a tough spot. I have some savings and a moderate retirement account, but it won’t last forever. To add to the stress, I had brain surgery in 2020 and another surgery to remove a tumor earlier this year in March. I have monthly treatments and periodic MRIs, and my father-in-law was very accommodating with my schedule during my time there. I’m struggling to find a job that allows me to keep up with my medical appointments while also providing a salary close to what I was making before. The job market feels saturated, and I’m considering remote operations or service manager roles, possibly with auto parts chains, but it's tough out there.

I just learned that Mars is closing the Nature’s Bakery plant, which means 345 of us will be laid off. It's a tough situation as many of us have been working here for years. The news hit hard, and now I'm trying to figure out my next steps. I'm hoping to connect with others who are affected and explore new job opportunities.

I recently learned that Thomson Reuters is planning to cut a small number of engineering jobs. Specifically, they are eliminating up to 500 roles globally, which accounts for about 1.8% of the entire workforce of approximately 27,100 employees. This reduction will impact around 5.2% of the operations and technology division, which has about 9,400 employees. Interestingly, while they are letting go of these positions, the company also intends to hire over 250 new engineers in the next two years. It seems like they have a history of outsourcing, which adds to the uncertainty.

I’ve been unemployed for two years after moving cross country, and I’m starting to feel hopeless. About two years ago, I had to leave my job because I could no longer work remotely, and my husband’s job required us to relocate. Given that he was making double my salary, it was clear one of us would have to leave our position, and it made sense for me to step away. I’ve been in the workforce for about eight years and have experienced unemployment before, but I always managed to find stable employment within 8-10 months. I’ve even switched fields briefly and have done my fair share of contract work and side hustles. I thought I’d be able to navigate this situation just like before. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize we were entering one of the worst job markets in recent memory. Now, two years later, I’m still unemployed. Even contract work seems more competitive, and I’ve heard that I’d have a better chance at a full-time position back in my previous location where I had a strong network. Starting over in a new place has been much harder than I anticipated. I’m grateful that my husband has a stable job, and we’ve managed on 1.25 to 1.5 incomes, but I feel like I’ve regressed to being 22 again, trying to break into my field. It’s also causing some stress at home, as I occasionally express my regrets about how the move impacted my career, even though I know it’s not my partner’s fault. Is anyone else going through something similar? I could really use some advice on coping with this situation.
