I recently faced a frustrating situation with my unemployment claim in Connecticut. After struggling to get my claim established due to the Connecticut Department of Labor's (CTDOL) system mistakenly indicating I had no wages in the state, I finally managed to resolve that issue and had my claim backdated. However, after submitting my weekly claims for the backdated weeks, I encountered a new problem. My account now shows a monetary determination stating $0 for benefits, and every backdated week is marked as having 'Excessive Earnings.' This is puzzling because I did not work or report any earnings during those weeks. I'm left wondering if this 'Excessive Earnings' status is a result of CTDOL still processing my backdated claim or if they believe I actually had earnings during that time. I'm particularly confused since the claim was already backdated before I submitted the weekly claims. I'm considering whether this is a temporary issue or if I need to reach out to CTDOL for clarification or possibly file an appeal.

I was let go from my job on May 5, 2026, and have been unemployed since then. I've been trying to file for unemployment in Connecticut, but my claim kept getting closed because I was told I had no work history in the state. After several frustrating attempts, I finally filed a complaint, and the issue was resolved, allowing me to submit my claim. However, my claim is only effective from August 2, despite my efforts to file since May. Now, I’m wondering if I can request a backdate to May 5 since the delays were due to the state’s error. I've been without benefits for about three months, and I start a new job on September 21. I’m also curious if I can still receive unemployment benefits for the weeks I was unemployed before starting my new job. Has anyone else in Connecticut faced a similar situation or managed to get their claim backdated successfully?
