I'm a recent graduate struggling to find a job after my internship ended. I have some diagnosed disabilities that limit my ability to perform certain types of work, particularly anything involving physical labor or standing for long periods. My disability is 'invisible,' which means employers often don't know about it unless I provide documentation for accommodations. I've previously worked in physically demanding roles, but it led to serious health issues for me. I'm feeling quite desperate and have been considering Vocational Rehabilitation, as I've heard it can assist people with disabilities in securing employment. However, I have no resources or contacts for guidance, so I'm reaching out to see if anyone has experience with Vocational Rehab. Did it help you find a job? Were there any costs involved?

I'm currently job hunting and I've been reflecting on how much my appearance might affect my chances of getting hired. Recently, I applied for a position in videography and video editing, and the company decided to skip preliminary interviews. Instead, they asked applicants to submit a short video answering a few basic questions about our experience and motivations for wanting to work there. I didn't put on any makeup for the video, just brushed my hair to look presentable. However, after watching the video, I felt really self-conscious about how I looked. I don't consider myself conventionally attractive; I have some masculine features that I usually soften with makeup, and I'm also overweight, which doesn't fit societal standards. I have crooked teeth and imperfect skin, but I always maintain good hygiene and dress well. Despite my efforts to look professional, I can't shake the feeling that my appearance might lead to being overlooked for positions I'm qualified for. In the past, I've suspected that less qualified candidates were chosen over me simply because they fit conventional beauty standards better. I’m starting to wonder if I’m just being paranoid or if there’s some truth to my concerns. Has anyone else felt this way during their job search?

I'm a 23-year-old woman and a recent graduate with a Bachelor's in Mass Communications Broadcast and Production. Unfortunately, my college experience has left me feeling underprepared for the job market. I chose this major after being discouraged from pursuing my dream of becoming a veterinarian, and while I thought I could pivot to film, the program didn't equip me with the necessary skills for a competitive field. I learned some basics of videography and drone work, but it’s just not enough to stand out among freelancers with far more experience. Currently, I'm struggling to find a job because I feel under-skilled. The market is saturated, and even if I improve my editing skills, I worry about the lack of opportunities. I have Narcolepsy Type 2, which means I can't handle physically demanding jobs, and mentioning my condition often leads to being overlooked by hiring managers. I'm at a loss for what to do next. Are there jobs I can pursue with my degree that I haven't considered? My last internship was a nightmare, so I'm hesitant about marketing, though that might have just been a bad experience. I'd love to hear any advice on career paths I can take without going back to school, as I can't afford it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm feeling really lost right now in my job situation. I'm a 23-year-old recent college graduate with a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications Broadcast and Production. To be honest, I feel like I wasted three years learning about communications and only got practical videography training in my last year. I wanted to pursue video editing, but financial constraints led me to this program instead. After graduating, I landed an internship with a marketing team at a small company, but it's been a nightmare. I'm working for minimum wage and taking on the workload of a previous videographer who quit, which is overwhelming. I asked for a pay raise due to the increased responsibilities, but they just said they'd see if it's in the budget, which feels disheartening considering their revenue is over a million a month. I’m really struggling mentally and financially. I can’t easily transition into the entertainment industry where I live, as there are few production studios hiring entry-level editors. The creative industry seems to be in a downturn, and I’m terrified of being stuck in this corporate job forever, especially since I’m underpaid compared to what professional editors make. I can’t quit because I desperately need the money. I’m limited to 29 hours a week to avoid benefits, which makes it hard to save. I have medical issues that require regular doctor visits, and while I can stay on my family’s insurance for a bit longer, it doesn’t cover everything. I’ve thought about other job options, but my medical conditions prevent me from doing hard labor. I have narcolepsy, which complicates my situation further since it’s not recognized for disability without a lengthy process. I’m just looking for any advice on how to navigate this tough spot. I’m applying to other positions, but there aren’t many entry-level roles available. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
