I recently received an offer for a new job that comes with a significant pay increase, one that my current company simply can't match. I’ve decided to accept it, but I’m at a crossroads about how to inform my current manager. Our relationship has become quite strained over the past few months. Initially, things were good, but after some personal challenges, I started to struggle with my workload. My manager has been increasingly frustrated with me, and despite my requests for guidance, he has been dismissive, insisting that I need to figure things out on my own. I know the standard procedure is to wait until everything is signed before resigning, but I’m contemplating how to approach this conversation. Part of me feels like I should give him some feedback on his leadership style, which I believe has contributed to my struggles, but I’m unsure if that’s my responsibility. Some advice I’ve received suggests that I should just resign without providing any reasons, as my manager might actually be relieved to see me go. Others have said that I should be honest and straightforward about the new offer, but I worry about how he might react. I want to leave on good terms, but I also want to be truthful about my experience. Ultimately, I’m leaning towards keeping it simple: resigning and moving on without getting into the details. It’s clear that this role and the current environment aren’t the right fit for me anymore.

I’ve been feeling a lot of guilt lately about looking for a new job. I’ve been with my current company for about four years now, and while I’m paid decently and my work-life balance is okay, I’ve hit a wall in terms of growth. I’ve been told that to get promoted, I need to do the job for six months before a pay bump can even be considered, and when it does come, it’s capped at just 10%. Meanwhile, I’ve started exploring external opportunities and the salaries being offered are significantly higher—around 12-20% more than what I’m making now. I like my job, but I’m not passionate about it, and the constant small raises of about 2.5% each year have left me feeling pretty drained. I know I shouldn’t feel guilty about wanting to improve my situation, but it’s hard to shake off that feeling.
