I’m currently working in an office billing/admin role at a small metal distribution company in Canada, and I’ve hit a major roadblock. When I accepted the position, there was no mention of any warehouse duties in the interview, job description, or my contract. Now, I’m being asked to verify shipments by moving heavy, long metal packages that I physically cannot handle. I have no warehouse training, and I refuse to risk injury by doing a job I never agreed to take on. As a woman in this role, I feel frustrated because I applied for an office position, not a warehouse job. If I had known about these physical requirements, I would have looked for opportunities elsewhere. I’ve started marking shipments as correct without checking them because I simply can’t move the materials. The warehouse staff have been dismissive, telling me to just figure it out. Recently, my boss confronted me about my refusal to do the warehouse work, and I’m feeling trapped. We don’t have an HR department, and I’m already juggling billing, customer service, sales, inventory, and shipping/receiving. I’m questioning the legality of being hired for an office position without disclosing significant physical demands. I’ve been at this company for almost 8 months, and I’m worried about getting injured. I’ve been applying for new jobs but haven’t had any luck so far. I really don’t want to quit, but I’m not sure what my next steps should be.

I've been working at my current job for 7 months, and honestly, it's been overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing the work of five people, yet I’m still considered 'too green' to get hired anywhere else. Just returned from a week-long vacation, and instead of feeling refreshed, I realized how much I need to escape this job. During my time off, I experienced a brief escape from the constant chaos of work—managing customers, inventory, shipments, and invoices. Now, I dread going back to that environment. My role was supposed to focus on billing and accounting, but I've ended up handling sales, customer service, inventory, shipping, receiving, and even warehouse tasks, all without proper training. I struggle physically with the warehouse work, yet I'm still expected to manage it all. It feels like I'm juggling multiple roles with no support. I've been actively applying for new jobs, but the feedback I keep receiving is that 7 months of experience isn't enough. Recruiters keep telling me I'm too 'green,' which is incredibly frustrating. It's maddening to be trusted with such a wide range of responsibilities at my current job but not seen as qualified for new opportunities elsewhere. I understand that 7 months isn't a lot of time, but should I really have to endure a job that’s burning me out just to hit a one-year mark on my resume? This vacation made me realize how much better I felt away from work, and now I feel like I'm walking back into a burning building. Has anyone else faced this dilemma of wanting to leave a first job but being held back by the perception of lack of experience? Should I keep applying and jump ship as soon as I get an offer, or stick it out until I reach that one-year milestone?

Today, I had a conversation with my boss about sick days and paid time off, which were not clearly outlined in my contract. To my surprise, he informed me that I don't have any sick days or PTO; instead, any sick days I take would be deducted from my two weeks of vacation. This really frustrates me because it feels unfair to use my vacation time for illness or mental health days. I've only been in this position for four months, and while I have been applying to other jobs, it seems like no one is interested in hiring me right now. It's disheartening to think that I might not have a safety net for when I'm unwell.
