I recently started a new job as an office/accounting assistant at a farm equipment dealership, just six weeks ago. The company was acquired in March by a larger firm, and while I was aware of the acquisition when I accepted the position, I'm starting to feel uneasy about my job security. The acquisition news article mentioned that 'all operations stay intact throughout the transition,' but I can't shake the feeling that this could change at any moment. This is the first time the acquiring company has taken over another business, so I have no idea how they typically handle these situations. I’m concerned that as a new hire, my position might be one of the first to go, especially since they may look to consolidate back-end operations, including accounting. I do have a backup plan in place, but I’m curious about how long it usually takes for things to stabilize after an acquisition. Should I be worried about getting laid off?

I signed a job offer for an accounting assistant position with an anticipated start date of June 29. After interviewing on June 11, I received an email offer the same day and sent a counter-offer the next day, which they revised. I accepted the offer on June 15 and confirmed my start date. The controller confirmed receipt via text and mentioned sending paperwork. However, it's now been over a week with no communication. I emailed him this morning to follow up but haven't received a response yet. I've already given notice at my previous job and am currently unemployed. I'm unsure how aggressively I should follow up, as I just want clarity on whether to continue my job search.
