I recently received a job offer for a news video editor position, but I was caught off guard and verbally accepted it without fully considering the pay. The offer is actually four dollars less than what I was making at my previous job as a news photographer, and the new role involves significantly more work. I'm wondering if it's acceptable to negotiate the salary after receiving the written offer but before signing it. I feel uneasy about possibly jeopardizing the offer, but I also don't want to settle for less than I deserve. I've seen advice suggesting that until I sign, I can still negotiate, but I'm concerned about the risk of them rescinding the offer if I go back on my word.

I had a job interview yesterday for a position I'm really excited about. The interviewer mentioned they would call me later that day or today with an update. Now I'm feeling a bit anxious because if I don't hear from them by around 4 or 4:30, I'm not sure if I should reach out or just wait it out. I don’t want to seem too eager, but I also don’t want to be left hanging. I’ve read that it’s common for companies to ghost candidates, so I’m trying to prepare myself for that possibility. Some advice I've seen suggests sending a thank you email on Monday if I don’t hear back, which I think I might do. I just want to make sure I handle this the right way.

I'm currently on the hunt for a remote job and would greatly appreciate any legitimate leads or referrals. I live in Trinidad & Tobago and have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. My skills include strong communication, organization, and problem-solving, along with a reliable internet connection. I'm a quick learner and adapt easily to new systems. I'm open to various roles such as Virtual Assistant, Customer Support, Administrative Assistant, Data Entry, Research Assistant, Operations Support, HR Assistant, or any entry-level remote position. I'm available for full-time, part-time, contract, or freelance work. If anyone knows of any companies hiring or has remote opportunities, please let me know or send me a DM. I'd be happy to share my resume and LinkedIn. Thank you!

I've been job searching for a while now, and it's been really tough. I'm 21 and currently working at a local restaurant where I've been for almost four years. I started there during my senior year of high school, thinking it would just be a temporary gig while I pursued a career in radiology. Unfortunately, after getting rejected from the radiology program at my community college, I took a gap year and now I feel completely lost. I'm making $13.75 an hour, and there's no real growth potential at my job. I don't want to stay in the restaurant industry forever, but I'm starting to worry that I'll never find anything else. I've applied to numerous positions, but I often hear nothing back. The few interviews I've had felt promising, yet I still haven't received any offers. The anxiety I feel before interviews can be overwhelming, sometimes leading to panic attacks. It's disheartening to call back and find out I didn't get the job, especially after investing so much energy into the process. I keep thinking that my lack of experience, having only worked at one place, might be holding me back. It's frustrating because I can't gain more experience if no one is willing to hire me. I really want to take control of my career, but I feel stuck. I'm looking for advice on how to improve my chances of getting a job or at least securing more interviews. I've attached my resume for feedback, as I'm open to any suggestions on how to make it better.

I recently attended an open interview at Walmart, but unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to actually interview. They helped me complete my application instead, and I was told to expect feedback by Saturday. However, I'm feeling anxious about the outcome. I really need this job before school starts next month, and I'm under 18, which makes it even more pressing. I've applied to three different crew carwashes as well, but they all said there were other candidates who were a better fit. It feels frustrating, especially since these jobs are meant to provide opportunities for teenagers like me. I'm starting to wonder if my resume is too vague or plain. I don't have much extracurricular experience to list, as I don't get out much, and I'm concerned that this might be hurting my chances. Any advice on how to improve my resume or stand out in applications would be greatly appreciated.

I struggled to find a job for months, feeling like my efforts were in vain. I believed that getting hired was mostly about luck, having connections, or just sending out countless applications. Despite my hard work, I received zero interview calls. Then, I stumbled upon an HBR article that highlighted the importance of soft skills in today's job market. It hit me that I had been focusing too much on obtaining certifications while neglecting the very skills that could help me stand out. I realized I needed to improve my communication, conversation skills, teamwork, leadership, and the ability to confidently share my ideas—essential life skills that I had never been taught. I committed to working on one life skill every morning, and as I did, I noticed that recruiters began to value these skills over my certifications. Eventually, I landed a job that I genuinely enjoy. If anyone needs help identifying which soft skills they might be missing or how to develop them, I would be more than happy to assist!

I recently completed my M.S. in Medical Microbiology & Biochemistry and I'm currently teaching microbiology labs at a community college. I'm trying to transition into an industry microbiology position, so I've been applying to entry-level and lower-paying roles to gain experience. However, I've faced multiple rejections, with employers stating that I am 'overqualified.' This has left me confused because I'm willing to accept a pay cut to gain industry experience, which I value more than salary right now. I understand that I may not qualify for senior roles due to my lack of industry experience, but it's frustrating to be turned down for entry-level positions. I suspect that hiring managers think I will leave for a better opportunity as soon as it arises, which makes sense from their perspective since training someone takes time. However, I want to assure them that I'm genuinely looking for a stable, long-term role in microbiology, not just a stepping stone. Additionally, I’m pursuing a remote M.S. in Molecular Science & Software Engineering at UC Berkeley part-time, which I believe will enhance my skills without interfering with job responsibilities. I'm curious to hear from hiring managers or recruiters about this 'overqualified' issue. What can someone in my position do to alleviate these concerns? I want to improve my approach and better understand the reasoning behind these rejections.

I recently learned about a tough situation my friend, a 17-year-old, faced at her job. She had requested vacation time a month ago, which was initially denied. In search of better opportunities, she found a new job that would honor her vacation request and decided to give her two weeks' notice. Just when it seemed like things were looking up, her original employer approved her vacation days, but then unexpectedly issued her a termination letter. The reason given was that they were concerned about being short-staffed during her absence, yet they still chose to fire her. Now, she’s left wondering if there’s any chance she can get her job back or if she’s stuck in a difficult situation. It’s frustrating to see how this unfolded, especially since she has bills to pay. I’m trying to help her navigate this tough time.

I recently received a verbal offer for the position of Senior Growth Strategy Manager (which is internally referred to as Senior Customer Success Manager) for a white label delivery service team in the UK. I'm currently trying to gather information about the salary bands, bonuses, share options, and total compensation for similar roles at companies like Uber and Deliveroo. I also have another offer from an insurance tech firm, so I want to ensure I negotiate effectively. The company hasn't mentioned a sign-on bonus, and I'm uncertain if I can request one if the base salary, bonus percentage, and stock options are non-negotiable. I'm eager to understand what aspects of the offer I can negotiate without risking the offer being rescinded, all while remaining respectful and courteous, as I'm genuinely excited about this opportunity in such a challenging job market. Any insights on typical compensation for this role or advice on negotiation would be greatly appreciated!

I was laid off during my third trimester and have been struggling to find work ever since. Now, at 4 weeks postpartum, I’m still having a tough time landing interviews. The few interviews I’ve managed to secure have come through referrals, which seems to be the only effective way to get noticed these days. I’m reaching out to see if anyone in the software industry can offer some assistance or advice. It's been a challenging transition, and I could really use some support.

I'm currently doing an unpaid marketing internship for a fashion brand in NYC, and it's been pretty draining creatively. I'm looking for a retail or food job that I can get quickly to help with my bills. Ideally, I need something that doesn't require too much mental effort and has low requirements. I've already applied to Target and a few other retail positions but haven't had much luck. I'm hoping to find companies with a quick hiring process. I've heard that places like McDonald's, local diners, or grocery stores often hire fast and might be worth checking out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I am currently working as a Hardware Engineer Manager with a salary of $110K and an approximate $10K bonus. My job offers 'unlimited' PTO, which I find appealing, but I haven't been using it to its full potential. My commute is about 25 minutes in the morning and 40 minutes in the afternoon, and while I have the flexibility to work from home, I usually go into the office most days. However, I find the work to be uninteresting, and I've reached a point where I feel I've learned as much as I can in this role. I recently received an offer for a Senior Electrical Engineer position with a salary of $140K, but the bonus is currently unknown. This new job offers 20 PTO days and requires me to be in the office five times a week, with every other Friday off. The commute is slightly longer at 30 minutes in the morning and 40-50 minutes in the afternoon. I believe this new role would provide me with valuable experience. While the new position seems better in many aspects, I am torn about whether to accept the offer or continue applying for other opportunities. I started my job search only a month ago, and I'm considering the feedback I've received from others about the potential for growth and experience in the new role.

I recently graduated with a degree in computer engineering and have been struggling to find an entry-level job in Virginia. Despite having a GPA above 3.0, I've sent out hundreds of applications without landing a single interview, which has been really disheartening. I even created a template to streamline the application process, but it hasn't helped much. Most of my classmates have secured positions with defense contractors, but that's not a path I'm interested in due to personal reasons. Today, I interviewed for a blue-collar job, but the employers were hesitant to hire me because of my engineering background; they doubted I'd stay for long. It's been tough, and I'm starting to feel really down about the whole situation. I just want to find work and start my career.

I was laid off from my job in October 2025 and applied for unemployment benefits. After a lengthy job search, I secured a freelancing contract in February 2026, which just ended on July 1st. Now, I'm in a bit of a dilemma regarding my unemployment benefits. Should I reopen my previous claim from when I was laid off, or start a new claim altogether? I've heard that since I'm still within the same benefit year, I should be reopening my claim, but I'm unsure about the specifics. I would appreciate any guidance on how to proceed with this situation.

I recently had my RESEA appointment in Minnesota, and I was feeling quite anxious about it. I was worried that I would be required to show an undisclosed number of job applications to prove my job search efforts. Thankfully, the appointment turned out to be more of an informational session rather than a strict check-up. They reviewed my job search progress, provided resources, and discussed strategies for finding employment. It was helpful to clarify my concerns, and I left feeling more prepared for my job search.

I was recently laid off from my position, and it hit me hard as the primary breadwinner for my family. I received only two weeks of pay as severance, which has left me feeling anxious about our financial situation. I'm reaching out to others who have been in similar positions, especially those with children, to see how they managed during the long job search that often follows a layoff. I know it can take months to find a new role, and I'm looking for any advice or strategies that worked for you. I’ve heard that networking is crucial, and I'm planning to reach out to my contacts on LinkedIn. Any tips on how to navigate this stressful period would be greatly appreciated.

I just got laid off from my role at a company where I thought I was safe. They announced that the company is struggling and they need to cut positions. I had a feeling something was off when payroll started coming in late and we were losing clients, but my manager kept assuring me everything was fine. I even tried to position myself as an important team member to survive the layoffs, but that strategy didn't work out. It took me almost a year to land this job, and now I have just 15 days to find something new before I'm officially unemployed. I was hoping to save money to move out, but that plan is now out the window. This will be my first experience with unemployment at 28 years old. I'm trying to stay calm and not panic, but I remember how anxious I felt during my last job search. This situation really sucks.

I’ve been actively searching for a job as a cashier or in a warehouse, targeting companies like Target, Ross, TJ Maxx, and Walmart. Unfortunately, I’ve faced a string of rejections despite my efforts. I’m looking for advice on how to improve my chances of landing a position, especially since I have little to no experience. I’d appreciate any tips on where else to apply, as well as recommendations for job search sites and apps that could help me in this process.

I'm currently researching the job market for knowledge workers in the U.S. and I'm reaching out to gather insights from those who have recently navigated their job searches. I'm particularly interested in hearing from professionals in roles such as Software Engineering, Data Analysis, Business Analysis, Product Management, Design, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Consulting, HR, and other office or professional positions. If you've landed a job in the last six months or are actively searching, I would greatly appreciate your feedback. Please share your current or target role, whether you're searching or have recently been hired, and how long your job search has lasted. My goal is to understand how interviews and opportunities are unfolding in today's market based on real experiences.

I recently graduated high school and am now in a bit of a bind trying to find a summer job before heading off to college. My mom has been encouraging me to get a job so I can earn some money, but I'm feeling overwhelmed. I just moved to a new state at the end of June and didn't search for jobs in my old town because I knew I would be relocating. Now, I have only July and August to find work, and I'm not sure where to start. With my parents planning some vacations, my available work time is even more limited. I'm worried that I won't be able to find a place that will hire me for just a few weeks. I've heard suggestions about local temp agencies like Manpower that might have short-term positions, and I'm considering that as a potential option.
