I just landed a new job with a significant pay increase, and I start next Monday! I'm really excited about this opportunity since it's the highest salary I've ever earned. However, my current job has been a nightmare. I've been working in a high-intensity sales role for the past nine months, and I've witnessed a staggering 93% turnover rate. It's been chaotic, with constant pressure and unrealistic sales goals. I was already on a performance improvement plan and facing another sales goal, so I knew my time there was limited. I was likely going to be let go or demoted soon. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to use my remaining 40 hours of PTO next week. I want to make sure I get one last paycheck from my current job while waiting for my first check from the new role. Unfortunately, I know that if I request PTO, they might fire me before approving it. I currently have short and long-term disability coverage, so I'm considering calling in sick for a few days to use my PTO without raising any red flags. I’ve seen suggestions online about how to handle this, like taking sick days and then quitting, which might be my best bet. If anyone has any advice or strategies for exiting gracefully while maximizing my PTO, I would really appreciate it!

I recently went through a frustrating experience with a remote job offer. After several interviews, I received an offer for the role and accepted it via email. I completed all the necessary onboarding forms and a background check, which came back clean. However, I was informed that my start date was pushed back to July 6th, which was communicated to me on June 2nd. I reached out via email to ask how this delay would affect my first pay date since they operate on a biweekly payroll schedule. Unfortunately, I didn't receive any response. I followed up on June 15th with two HR contacts, but still no acknowledgment or reply. Now, I'm left feeling perplexed and concerned that I've wasted nearly a month on a job that might not even happen. It's been disheartening to experience such a lack of communication from the company, especially after having signed the offer letter and completed all required steps. I'm considering my options and thinking about how to proceed, as I haven't heard anything since the last email.

I had an interview today for a fast food position, and I’ve been searching for a job for a while now. During the interview, the manager provided me with specific instructions about the hiring process, which was a first for me. She mentioned that she would review my online application and that I would receive a call to schedule an orientation. I was also told to bring my ID and Social Security card. I’m feeling a bit anxious and wondering if this is a good sign or if I’m just overthinking it. It’s encouraging to hear about the next steps, but I know it’s not a guarantee.

I've been searching for a job for the past four months and it's been really challenging. I've applied to numerous positions in my field but haven't had any luck getting interviews. I've updated my resume and tailored my cover letters for each application, but it feels like I'm hitting a wall. I'm starting to feel discouraged and am wondering if I should consider changing my approach or even looking into different industries. Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently a Social Worker Director at a nursing home, earning $92k. While my job is secure and comfortable, I've realized there are no opportunities for growth, and my requests for salary reviews have been ignored for three years. Recently, I was recruited for a regional social worker position with a large healthcare company, which offered me $105k after negotiations. This role presents a chance for growth, better benefits including vision and dental, and less public-facing stress. However, I would have to travel between multiple facilities and leave behind my beloved coworkers and residents. The decision is tough, but the potential for advancement and better compensation is pushing me to consider the change. Would you take the leap?

I recently had a second and final interview with a boutique property management company that I'm really excited about, as it would require me to relocate. I've been through three interviews with five different people, including the Principal, and I've received positive feedback throughout the process. However, it's been a week since my last interview on June 15, and I haven't heard anything yet. I applied for two positions at this company. My timeline started on May 25 when I applied for the first position and had my first interview on May 28. I followed up with a thank you note after each interview, but the communication has been sparse. I was told I would hear back about the second interview for the first position by the end of the week, but here I am, still waiting. I understand that ghosting is common in the job search process, but I feel anxious and want to know if it's appropriate to send a follow-up email. I don't want to come off as overbearing, but I also think it's reasonable to ask for an update, especially since my life is on hold while I wait to see if I need to plan a move. I’ve seen others in similar situations and it seems like following up is a common practice, so I'm leaning towards sending that email soon.

I recently made the decision to quit my job as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) without having a concrete plan in place for what comes next. It was a tough choice, but I felt it was necessary for my mental well-being. Now, I'm feeling a bit lost and could really use some advice on how to navigate this transition. I'm open to exploring different career options and would appreciate any tips on job searching, networking, or even considering further education. What should I do next?

I'm currently navigating my unemployment situation in Pennsylvania and considering a part-time contract position that could lead to long-term employment. The pay is similar to what I'm receiving from unemployment, but I'm concerned about how it might affect my benefits. Specifically, I'm worried that if I take this job and it doesn't provide consistent hours or eventually ends, I might not be able to reapply for unemployment benefits. I've heard that Pennsylvania allows you to earn a certain amount without losing your benefits, but I'm still uncertain about the details. I want to make an informed decision before I move forward.

I'm facing a tough situation as I'm getting laid off from my role as a Junior System Analyst. I graduated with a degree in Computer Information Systems and worked hard to gain experience during college, including internships at an AI startup and involvement in cybersecurity clubs. After graduating, I spent months applying to jobs and obtaining certifications, tracking over 500 applications and landing around 20 interviews. Eventually, I got hired as a Junior Sys Analyst, but the excitement was short-lived. The project I was assigned to was awarded to another company, and my contract was cut from January 2028 to January 2027. I hoped to gain valuable experience, but due to delays, I wasn't cleared for meaningful work until February this year. In May, I learned that the transition to the new company would happen sooner than expected, and I might be let go in June or July. Now, I've received confirmation that my last day will be in early July, and with a hiring freeze in place, my chances of being hired by the new company are slim. I'm devastated after working so hard to secure a job in my field, and the thought of starting over again is overwhelming. I'm reaching out to see if others have navigated similar situations and what lessons they've learned. I'm just trying to find some hope amidst this disappointment.

I recently found myself contemplating what I would do if I received just 48 hours' notice of being laid off due to a company restructure. The scenario is daunting; I would have to keep it all to myself and not share the news with my coworkers. One thought that crossed my mind was to go on FMLA to buy some time. Another idea was to secure a home equity line of credit before the layoff became official, as I know it would be much harder to get approved once I'm unemployed. Having access to extra funds, even if I don't end up needing them, would definitely ease the transition.

I was laid off about two months ago and have been actively applying for jobs since then, but unfortunately, I haven't received any responses. I'm reaching out for help to get interviews, especially if anyone has open roles on their teams. I have about two years of experience as a full-stack developer, primarily using Java, Spring Boot, and React. Any assistance or connections would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I’m a 29-year-old female engineer who recently completed my PhD at 26. Since then, I've been moving quickly through my career, spending about 20 months at my first job where I earned $80k, a year at my second job making $120k, and now I'm four months into my third role with a salary of $200k. While I’m proud of my salary growth, I’m starting to worry that my job-hopping might raise red flags for recruiters. I’ve worked in both the aviation and nuclear sectors, but I often feel burnt out around the six-month mark in each position. I really want to stay in my current job longer because I know frequent changes can look bad on a resume. However, I’m already feeling that urge to look for new opportunities again. I’m curious about how long I should ideally stay in my current role to be seen as stable in the eyes of recruiters. I’ve read mixed opinions on this, with some saying that staying for 3-5 years is ideal, while others suggest that changing jobs every 18-24 months is acceptable. I think my burnout stems from being the youngest on my teams and feeling the pressure to prove myself quickly, which can be exhausting. I want to hear from others who have faced similar challenges and how they managed to cope without quitting. Just to clarify, I spent four years as a research assistant before my first job, earning $2k a month. I’ve been at my current job for six months and don’t plan on leaving right now, but I’m seeking advice on how to navigate this situation.

I was previously working as a Mechanical Engineer but have transitioned to a role as a City Carrier Assistant. After being out of the engineering field for about 7 years and having minimal experience, I'm seeking advice on how to get back on track in my engineering career. A few suggestions I've received include considering grad school to enhance my qualifications. I'm looking for a program where I can complete my master's degree in about a year and at a reasonable cost, without focusing too much on the prestige of the school, as long as it's a legitimate institution. I'm eager to hear any other tips or insights on making this transition successfully.

I reached out to a recruiter I had previously worked with at a well-known company. Earlier this year, I applied for a coordinator role but was rejected. Recently, I got back in touch regarding a lower-level position, which I also didn't get. Now, I've seen another job opening at the same company that I'm really interested in. I'm considering sending a direct email to the recruiter with my updated resume and cover letter. I want to know if this is a good idea or if it might come off as annoying since I've already applied for a couple of roles and faced rejections. I believe my skills align with the positions, and I've made it through mid-stages in the past, so I'm not completely out of the running. I genuinely want to pursue this opportunity but I'm worried about overstepping. Any thoughts?

I applied for my dream job on May 28th and got a call on June 9th to schedule an interview, which took place on June 12th. The interview involved three staff members and the current role holder, who is retiring. I felt confident during the interview as the questions were mostly aligned with my experience, except for one, but I managed to address it with related knowledge. They mentioned that one of the main job duties is my ideal position, which got me even more excited. I asked some good questions, including confirming that it was a 12-month position since it’s in a school setting. I was told they were looking to schedule one more initial interview virtually and then proceed to performance-based interviews, aiming to hire by mid-July. However, with the recent graduation events and the office being closed for Juneteenth, I haven’t heard anything back. I was on PTO during this time, so I knew communication might be slow, but I'm starting to wonder if I've been ghosted or if there's still a chance for a second interview.

I’m currently in the process of applying for new positions and would really appreciate some critical feedback on my resume. I want to make sure it stands out to hiring managers, so any pointers on red flags or areas for improvement would be incredibly helpful. Additionally, I’d love to hear from others about their experiences in the current job market. How are you all finding the application process?

I'm currently on summer holiday after finishing year 11 and I'm looking to apply for a temporary job for about eight weeks, ideally working three days a week. I've noticed that most job listings are for part-time positions, and I'm unsure how to approach this. Should I specifically ask for summer-only roles, or should I just apply to various jobs and mention my availability during the application process? I've heard that many places, especially in retail and hospitality, expect summer help and are open to discussing this during interviews. I want to make sure I'm clear about my availability without missing out on opportunities.

I recently completed my PhD in Computer Science with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. As an international student on an F1 visa, I am now actively searching for job opportunities in the tech industry. I'm particularly interested in roles that leverage my expertise in AI and ML, and I'm open to positions in various locations. I'm currently navigating the complexities of work authorization and networking within the industry to find the right fit.

I’m currently in California and I’m almost out of my unemployment insurance funds. My claim balance shows just $450 left, which will be paid out the week of July 5th. Normally, I receive $900 every two weeks, so this amount is really stressing me out as it won't cover my expenses. I'm still searching for a job but haven't found anything yet. I'm trying to figure out how extensions work for unemployment benefits. I've heard that there aren't any extensions available right now unless you're in an official training program, which I didn't apply for within the first 16 weeks of my benefits. I'm feeling pretty panicked about my situation.

I recently lost my job at a tech company where I was a project manager. I'm 56 years old and currently have health insurance, but I'm worried about what will happen when my benefits end. I rely on multiple medications, and I'm unsure if I'll qualify for state insurance. I've heard that COBRA can be quite expensive, and I'm really anxious about how to manage my health care costs moving forward. I've been looking into options like the ACA marketplace, but I'm not sure where to start. I also heard that some people are able to access Medicaid if their income is low enough, but I need to research that further. It's a stressful situation, and I'm trying to figure out the best path forward for my health and finances.
