This week, I'm stuck in the unfortunate position of training my replacement after my entire department, which consisted of over 300 people, was laid off due to offshoring to a vendor in India. It's been a gut punch, especially after dedicating over 10 years to this company. We were blindsided by this decision, and now I find myself in a situation where I need to stay through my notice period to receive severance, which means I have to help transition my work to someone else. It feels incredibly dehumanizing to have spent so much time on projects, receiving nothing but positive feedback, only to be told that my contributions are valuable but my job isn’t. The corporate jargon surrounding this process is infuriating—terms like "transition period," "exiting," and "knowledge transferring" are just euphemisms for what’s really happening. It’s hard to reconcile this with any sense of ethics or morality. I can’t help but feel a sense of betrayal, especially since the director led us to believe we were secure just a week before the layoffs. The silver lining, if there is one, is that I hope karma catches up with those responsible for this mess. As I prepare to train my replacement, I’m torn between wanting to do a good job and feeling the urge to sabotage the process out of frustration. It’s a tough spot to be in, and I’m just hoping to find something better on the other side of this.

I was recently laid off from my job while pregnant, and the timing couldn't have been more shocking. On the same day I discovered I was expecting, I received a notification to join a call where I, along with 300 others, was informed of the layoffs. It was surreal; I had just taken a pregnancy test and saw the positive result, only to be told I was losing my job. After facing secondary infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss, this wave of emotions is truly overwhelming. Currently, I’m still required to work until my official separation date, which has been extended for me in hopes of finding another position within the company. However, I can’t shake the anxiety of job searching while pregnant, especially considering the ethical implications of a company that lays off so many employees to offshore jobs. I worry about how this might affect my chances of being hired elsewhere, and the thought of starting new insurance during this time adds to my stress. I know I’m not alone in this situation, and I would appreciate any comfort or advice from those who have faced similar challenges.
