It's been 7 weeks and 5 days since my employer announced the shutdown and impending layoffs. Each department had different end dates, and mine is set for September 29th. As soon as I heard the news, I jumped into job search mode and started applying to 4-5 jobs every day. Most of the positions I applied for were ones I felt qualified for, although a few were a bit of a stretch. Today, I received an offer letter! The new job comes with good benefits and matches my current salary, so I'm relieved there won't be any loss in pay. Plus, it offers better opportunities for growth and advancement. Overall, I'm feeling really happy about this new chapter!

I came across a job posting recently while job hunting that really made me question the pay scale. The position had a long list of responsibilities, including managing government contracts, but the pay was listed as $12 to $20 an hour. I can't wrap my head around how $12 could be considered a competitive wage. In my area, even grocery stores are offering around $18 an hour just for picking online orders. It feels like there's a huge disconnect between the expectations for the role and the compensation being offered.

I recently applied for a job that seemed like a perfect fit for my skills and experience. I felt confident after the interview; the hiring manager seemed impressed with my resume, and we had a great rapport. I followed up with a thank you email, but then I received the disappointing news that I didn't get the position. I reached out to the recruiter for feedback, but I haven't heard back at all. It's frustrating, especially since this was a role I really wanted. I'm still actively searching and applying to about 4 to 5 jobs each day, even some that stretch beyond my current skillset. I’m also planning to start online college courses in a few weeks to enhance my qualifications. It's only been a month since my layoff was announced, and I've got just under two months left until my job officially ends. This whole process is weighing on me, and I'm feeling a bit down about it all.
