I recently got laid off from my graphic design role in 2024 after a decade of experience. Despite having a strong resume and portfolio, I've only been able to secure contract and freelance work since then. I've been actively networking and following all the advice from recruiters, but I've faced challenges in interviews. Companies often say I'm either too senior for junior roles or not senior enough for senior positions since I haven't managed a team. Mid-level roles are scarce, and I frequently get ghosted after applying. I'm starting to consider a drastic step: should I downplay my experience on my resume to appear as a junior designer with only 2-5 years of experience? I know this would mean a pay cut and might seem like a strange career move, but I'm feeling desperate to secure a stable job. Is this approach completely misguided? The current job market is making me feel a bit unhinged.

I was laid off from my senior operations role in the entertainment industry at the end of last year. In mid-April, I saw an opening at a former competitor and immediately applied. The next day, HR reached out to schedule an interview, and the process moved quickly from there. I completed four rounds of interviews over the following three weeks and felt confident about how they went. However, after my final interview, things went quiet. It's now been almost a month since then. I've followed up with HR a few times, and while they have been responsive, they keep apologizing for the delay and mentioning that a decision hasn't been made yet. I’m starting to feel the stress of the waiting game. I know there's hope until I hear a definitive no, but it's tough not to overthink things. I'm trying to maintain my job search routine and stay positive, but I’m unsure what else I can do at this point.

I recently applied for a lab job and had a successful interview. They've moved forward with my application and now I'm in the process of completing a background check, which includes verifying my criminal record, employment history, and a drug test. However, I'm feeling anxious about this part because I listed my experience as an assistant manager at Circle K from 2020 to 2022 on my resume. In reality, I was just a regular retail worker who took on some additional responsibilities, and I actually worked there from 2021 to 2022. The background check company, Triton, requires me to provide details of my employment over the last five years, including HR contact information. Unfortunately, I don’t have any HR details because my manager was the owner and handled everything personally. I'm worried that this lack of documentation could jeopardize my job offer, as they might think I've misrepresented my experience. I'm really stressed about this situation because I need this job. I'm looking for advice on how to approach this issue and what steps I should take next.

I am currently in a toxic work environment that has become increasingly hostile. My boss has openly admitted to pushing me out because she fears I might take her job. The team I work with is rude and unwelcoming, contributing to an overall dreadful atmosphere. High turnover rates are common here, which only adds to the negativity. Despite my efforts to maintain a strong work ethic, I find myself dreading each day at the office, and I feel that my desire to seek a better job is being questioned by those around me. I have been job searching, but the responses have been disheartening, with many applications going unanswered or resulting in rejections. I desperately want to leave this situation, but I am concerned about my past experiences with homelessness and unemployment. I can't afford to go back to that, and right now, pursuing further education isn't a viable option either.

I’m currently trying to land my first job at 14 years old. I’ve been applying for cashier positions on sites like Indeed, but I keep getting denied without even getting an interview. It’s been really frustrating. I’ve heard that the job market is tough, especially for someone my age, and that I should apply to multiple places every day without getting my hopes too high. I also learned that many businesses prefer hiring 16 and older to avoid legal issues related to younger workers. I’m considering asking around at school to see if anyone knows of businesses that might be more open to hiring someone my age. In the meantime, I’m thinking about picking up some babysitting gigs, lawn maintenance, or even washing cars in my neighborhood to gain some experience and earn a little money.

I applied for a position at an auto parts store and received a callback the very next day to set up an interview with the manager, Ben. On the day of the interview, I arrived about 10 minutes early and inquired about Ben's availability. To my surprise, the Assistant Store Manager informed me that Ben had been transferred to another store and had forgotten to pass along my interview information. Despite this unexpected turn of events, I maintained a friendly demeanor and proceeded with the interview. It went smoothly, and the ASM mentioned that I have a great vibe. He said he would contact me within the next 1 to 3 days. I'm feeling optimistic about this opportunity!

I recently had a job interview for a marketing position at a tech company last Wednesday. During the interview, they mentioned that I should expect to hear back by the end of this week. I took the initiative to send a thank-you email on Thursday, expressing my appreciation for their time. Now, I'm contemplating whether I should follow up for an update. I don't want to seem impatient, but I also want to convey my strong interest in the role. Given their timeline, I'm considering whether it's appropriate to reach out on Friday, Thursday, or if I should hold off until Monday.

I have a third round interview tomorrow with a company that I'm really excited about. It's a fully remote position within a successful sector, and I feel like the team would be a great fit for me. However, I just found out that the company is being acquired by a private equity firm, and the news has created quite a stir in my current close-knit industry. Everyone seems shocked, and I'm starting to wonder about the stability of the role I'm applying for. I'm planning to bring this up during the interview, even though I know they might not have all the details yet. I want to gauge the team's feelings about the acquisition and whether they anticipate any disruptions to their daily operations. I’ve heard that private equity acquisitions can be tough on employees, especially in creative roles, so I want to be cautious. I’m thinking of asking about their retention plans and if there are any plans for restructuring, since that usually hints at potential layoffs. If they seem evasive or give me vague corporate answers, I’ll take that as a red flag.

I have my final round interview tomorrow for a position I've been really excited about. I've gone through several stages already, and this is the last step in the process. The role is for a marketing manager at a tech startup, and I feel both nervous and hopeful. I've prepared extensively, researched the company, and practiced my responses. I really want to make a good impression and show them that I'm the right fit for their team. Fingers crossed!

I recently applied for a part-time position at a clothing retail store. I had my interview on Friday, but it felt very rushed and I didn't think it went well. The interviewer mentioned I would hear back by Tuesday, but I received an email on Saturday saying I was unsuccessful. I brushed it off, thinking it was fine. However, on Tuesday, I got a call from the interviewer saying the other candidate didn't accept the position, so I was still in the running. He also mentioned he had two more interviews scheduled for the next day and would let me know afterward. It left me confused about why he called if he was still interviewing other candidates. Is this a common practice for employers to keep candidates hanging like this?

I’m currently on the hunt for a summer job as a sales associate at retail stores like Victoria's Secret, Five Below, or Bath and Body Works. As a rising junior in college pursuing a BA in Psychology, I’m looking to gain experience that will help me when I apply for grad school. However, due to financial struggles and a challenging home environment, I need to find a job that allows me to earn some extra cash and get out of the house. I know that retail positions typically don’t require extensive experience, but I do have an on-campus job during the semester that I believe showcases my ability to interact with diverse individuals. I’m seeking feedback on my resume to ensure it effectively highlights my skills and experiences. I’m based in Texas, so any local insights would also be appreciated.

I recently applied for a job through Indeed and was surprised to receive a text and email almost immediately after submitting my application. The company appears to be legitimate, but I found it odd that the recruiter reached out via text without any prior introduction. The email was from a teamengine.io address, which I discovered is a platform used by recruiters for onboarding. Despite the company being real, I'm feeling uneasy because it's not an official company email. I tried to address my concerns with the recruiter politely, but now I'm second-guessing myself and wondering if this could be a scam. I’ve seen comments suggesting that automated messages are common in the hiring process, but I still feel skeptical. I'm considering reaching out to HR to verify the legitimacy of the communication.

I graduated last May with a degree in cybersecurity and have been trying to break into the IT field ever since. I'm currently 25 years old and studying for my Security+ certification. Despite sending out over 700 applications in the past six months, I haven't been able to land even the most basic roles that require just a GED, and I'm willing to work for as little as $15/hr. I have a solid background in sales, so I know I have skills to offer, but it feels like I'm hitting a wall. I've tried applying online and even walking my resume into businesses, but nothing seems to work. I've heard that networking is crucial in this industry, and I'm really struggling to find that first opportunity. I'm open to any tips or advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I recently applied for a job that I was really excited about. I spent a considerable amount of time carefully filling out the application, making sure to highlight how my skills and experiences aligned with the role. Everything seemed to be going well until I hit the submit button. Almost immediately, I received a notification saying, "sorry you are unsuccessful for the role." The job posting disappeared from the site, leaving me baffled and frustrated. It felt incredibly harsh to be rejected without any chance for an interview or even a conversation. I couldn't help but wonder how companies can operate this way. It seems so impersonal and discouraging. I guess my application must have gone through an ATS and didn't meet their specific criteria, but it still feels outrageous to be dismissed so quickly.

I recently got laid off from my position as an Associate Software Engineer at a company where I had been working for about two years. I was initially excited to land a job there, especially coming from a tier 3 college, but unfortunately, the company was struggling financially and ended up laying off 50% of its workforce, which included me. I was earning 70k INR per month, and now I'm on the hunt for a new job in Java/Spring Boot roles. The job market is tough right now; most positions require at least 3 years of experience, while the entry-level jobs are offering significantly lower salaries, around 20k to 30k INR per month. I feel stuck because if I had just one more year of experience, I believe I could find a job with a decent salary. I've received a severance package that covers six months of pay, which is a bit of a relief, but it also means I have a limited timeframe to secure a new position. It's been 10 days since I started applying, and despite my resume scoring a 7, I haven't even been shortlisted for interviews. I don’t have any referrals to help me either, which adds to my frustration. I'm reaching out for advice on how to improve my chances of landing a job.

I was recently laid off from a UK-based company where I had been working for several years. This unexpected turn has left me feeling quite hopeless about my job search. I've been applying to various positions but haven't had much luck so far. I'm trying to stay positive and keep pushing forward, but it's definitely a challenging time. I appreciate the support from those who have reached out, and I'm hoping that something will come through soon.

I recently went through a series of interviews for a role at a medium-sized company. It all started two weeks ago when I had my first interview with HR, which went really well. I was quickly invited to the next round with two project leads just two days later. That interview also felt great, and shortly after, I received an invitation for the final round with the COO that took place the following Monday. During the COO interview, we had a mix of scripted and off-script discussions, and I left feeling positive. I was told HR would get back to me within a week. However, a week has passed since that final interview, and I haven’t heard anything yet. It’s now the end of Monday, and I’m starting to wonder if it’s over for me. I know that HR was busy last week with international candidates, so that might explain the delay, but as someone who tends to overthink, I'm feeling anxious. Part of me is trying to move on, but I can't help but hold onto a glimmer of hope for this opportunity.

I recently found myself in a tough situation during my first week at a new job. After being laid off in April from my previous role in the manufacturing industry, I quickly started interviewing with various companies. A friend in the industry helped me land an interview at a larger competitor, which ended up being the best offer I received at the time. I had also been in talks with my dream job, but they asked me to wait while they interviewed other candidates, which felt too risky for me. I accepted the offer from the competitor and even flew out to their headquarters on the west coast for training. However, just today, I had a meeting with my dream job, and they verbally offered me everything I wanted. I accepted their offer and am now waiting for the written offer, which I expect to receive soon. The dilemma is that I will need to quit my current job as soon as I get that written offer, all while I’m still at their training. I really don’t want to burn any bridges in the industry, as it’s a tight-knit community. I’m seeking advice on how to navigate this situation without causing any issues or making enemies. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I recently went through a grueling job application process with a behavioral health company that I considered my dream job. I aced four interviews, receiving praise for my skills and background at each stage. I was invited to interview for a high-level position, and after impressing the interviewers, I was moved to a two-hour IQ assessment. However, I was later informed that the position was filled and was recommended for a lower role. For this lower position, I put in a lot of effort, practicing late into the night for the mock scenario. Again, I received positive feedback for my performance and was moved to the next stage, which was another interview with the team lead. I was praised for my leadership and problem-solving skills, and I even sent my references to the hiring manager to further prove my worth. Despite all this, I was once again told that the position was filled, and they were no longer considering me for any roles. To make matters worse, I checked their LinkedIn and saw that they are still posting job openings for the positions I applied for. I feel numb and exhausted after investing so much time and energy into this process, only to be left with nothing. I lost sleep preparing for these interviews, and I had hoped that my efforts would lead to a job offer. Now, I'm left questioning whether I even want to apply for other positions, especially since a company like this wouldn't hire me after all that effort. It's disheartening.

I've been job searching for 7 months now, and it's been a tough journey. I have a background in technology compliance and operations analysis, but I'm struggling to figure out what skills I should focus on to transition into business analysis or product management. I know the common advice is to upskill, but I'm overwhelmed with options and unsure what would be most beneficial. I've been applying to roles where I can highlight my transferable skills, but it feels like most positions require specific experience that I don't have. I'm particularly frustrated because I notice that job postings are scarce, especially on Mondays when I start my search. I'm hoping to get some guidance on what specific tools or skills I should learn to improve my chances.
