I was laid off about a month ago due to budget cuts from my previous job. I quickly applied and received a job offer at a new company, which had a higher hourly rate than my old position. I was told the hours would be less, but I figured the increased pay would balance it out. However, after starting the new job, I found out that the hours were even fewer than I expected, and now I'm facing upcoming expenses and a rent increase next month. I'm really stressed about my financial situation and I'm wondering if I can apply for partial unemployment. Additionally, I was offered a different role at my previous job just a week before my last day, but I declined because I wasn't interested in it, even though it would have come with a raise. Now I'm second-guessing that decision and feeling regretful. I'm not sure how all of this affects my eligibility for unemployment benefits. Any advice on what I can do?

I've been struggling to find a part-time job since December, and it's really starting to get to me. I'm 17 and have applied to countless places, but all I've received are rejection letters. It's frustrating to see my friends working hard at their jobs while I'm stuck here, feeling like I'm wasting my summer. I've updated my resume multiple times and can't figure out what's wrong with it. I have decent skills, I'm fluent in several languages, and I know I have the work ethic to succeed, yet I still can't land a regular job. I'm considering reaching out to family friends and teachers for networking opportunities, as I've heard that can really help. I just hope something comes through soon.

I recently applied for a position as a Photo Host at Venu Plus and have a virtual interview scheduled for the 30th of this month. I've come across their job listings on Handshake since my college days, but I haven't been able to find much information about the company. They have a YouTube channel that showcases their work, but it has very few views, which makes me question their legitimacy. Additionally, sites like Indeed and Glassdoor have reviews locked behind a sign-in requirement, which feels frustrating and a bit sketchy. I'm hoping to connect with anyone who has experience working there to get a better understanding of the company culture and what to expect.

I recently interviewed for a government writing-intensive position and the process was surprisingly quick. I applied and heard back within a week, although I initially missed their email because it ended up in my spam folder. They called to confirm my interest and scheduled the interview right away. The exam was a traditional pencil and paper format, which included a 100-word spelling test and multiple pages of text for markup edits. I was given about 1.25 hours to complete it, and I managed to finish with five minutes to spare. The proctor, who would also be one of my potential bosses, asked if I wanted to double-check my work, but I declined, explaining that I preferred to have a second set of eyes on it instead. After the exam, they decided to conduct my interview immediately. I was a bit surprised, as I thought it would just be a brief discussion about the test. During the interview, I asked about common misconceptions new hires have and how to avoid pitfalls. They seemed genuinely surprised by my questions and appreciated that I had already reviewed the information they sent me via email. I also inquired about what success looks like in this role over the first few months. They mentioned that it was an unusual question but acknowledged the importance of finding a balance between accuracy and efficiency. I shared my experience from my time in the Navy, emphasizing the motto "slow is fast" to highlight the importance of doing things right the first time. They seemed pleased with my performance on the exam and the interview overall. I was told I would know the outcome by mid-July, and while the pay isn't exactly what I hoped for, the job offers benefits like guaranteed parking and my own office space. There's no overtime, but the comp time and vacation policies seem generous. Overall, I felt positive about the experience, and I'm hopeful for a good outcome. Wish me luck!

I've been actively job searching for the past six months and have submitted five different resumes, but I haven't landed a single interview yet. I'm currently employed and hold a B.S. degree in Technology, along with a military background in equipment testing and engineering. I've targeted employers that align with my skills and security clearance, and I'm even open to relocating for the right position. Despite my salary expectations being reasonable for the roles I'm applying for, I can't help but wonder if my age and experience are hindering my chances. This job market feels tougher than ever, and I'm seeking any constructive feedback to improve my job search.

I recently had an interview for a position I wasn't truly interested in. I had initially applied for a different role, but the application closed just before I submitted mine. A friend encouraged me to apply for this other position instead. During the interview, I mistakenly expressed that I wasn't interested in the role, as I was focused on the one I originally wanted. Now, I'm regretting that decision because I've heard there might be a chance to transfer to the desired position in a month. I'm feeling stuck and unsure if I should just accept my mistake and move on or if there's a way to salvage this situation. Any advice on how to handle this would be appreciated.

I'm currently in the process of transitioning into consulting after graduating from my master's program. I've applied to several roles, including generalist, healthcare/life sciences, and analytics consulting, but my resume keeps getting rejected before I even reach the interview stage. It's been really frustrating because I feel like I have the right background; I've done analytical work, research, and project-based problem-solving during my studies and internships, but something isn’t translating on paper. I'm struggling to understand how candidates without prior consulting internships break into the field. Are there firms that are more open to hiring recent grads from state schools without traditional consulting experience? At this point, I'm unsure if the issue lies with my resume, my background, or simply the competitiveness of the consulting industry. I would greatly appreciate any advice from those who have successfully made this transition or from anyone working in consulting who has experience with nontraditional candidates. If you've managed to secure a consulting role without the typical background, I'd love to hear how you did it. Right now, I feel like I'm doing everything right, but I'm not getting any traction. I would really appreciate the opportunity to sit down with someone who can help me refine my application.

I was laid off again this past Monday, marking my second layoff in 2023. The first time was particularly tough, happening just six weeks after I gave birth. I worked hard to find a new job and managed to secure one within six weeks, but now I'm back in the job market. My role was in HR, which I’ve learned is not considered a core business function, making me more vulnerable to layoffs. I'm applying for jobs in my field, but the market feels so different from what it was a few years ago. It's discouraging and frustrating, especially with financial worries looming over me. I also applied for unemployment benefits for the first time since my last experience on EDD, which adds another layer of stress to the situation.

I applied for a position at a promising company in my state and successfully navigated through three rounds of interviews. Today, I was scheduled to have an interview with the Director of the program, but he didn't show up. I'm feeling frustrated and confused about what to do next. I've already reached out to all my contacts at the company, but I haven't received any response yet. It feels like a slap in the face, especially considering how challenging the job market is right now. After investing so much time and effort into the interview process, it's disheartening to see someone who could potentially be my boss not take this seriously.

I'm currently navigating the job search as a minor, and it's proving to be quite challenging. Being in my teens means I have limited options when it comes to finding work, especially with the restrictions imposed by labor laws. I've applied to countless positions on job sites like Indeed, but the reality is that the opportunities available to me are significantly fewer than those for adults. Most places seem to discard my application as soon as they see my age, which can be really discouraging. I've been considering alternative approaches, like walking into local businesses to speak directly with owners, as some have suggested. I've also thought about taking on cash jobs, like mowing lawns or shoveling snow, which could be a good way to earn some money without the formal job application process. I'm aware that seasonal jobs might be my best bet, but I still feel like I'm at the bottom of the job market. I've also been encouraged to reach out to my school for any job placement programs or guidance, which I plan to do. Overall, the job search feels tough, but I'm trying to stay hopeful and explore every avenue available.

I've been feeling really frustrated with my job search lately. I've been applying to numerous positions and sending out resumes, but all I seem to get in return are rejections. It's disheartening, and at times I feel like I'm stuck in a rut, unable to move forward. I've even spent some of my limited funds going to interviews, only to come back feeling more defeated each time. This whole process is really taking a toll on my mental health, and I'm starting to wonder if things will ever change for the better.

I recently applied for unemployment benefits in Michigan after losing my job. I'm planning to start applying for new positions soon, but I'm a bit confused about the requirements during the waiting period. I know that once I'm confirmed for benefits, I need to show proof of job applications, but I just submitted my application a few days ago. I'm wondering if I need to report any job applications I make within the first three weeks while I wait for a decision. I want to make sure I'm following the rules without overloading the already busy UIA staff.

I’ve been struggling to find a job since I left my last position last November due to a toxic work environment. Living in Fort Myers, Florida, where the job market is limited and mostly seasonal, has made things even harder. I’m 25, jobless, and facing the possibility of homelessness since I have no savings and I’m falling behind on bills. I’ve submitted hundreds of applications and have faced countless rejections and ghostings. To make ends meet, I’ve been doing Uber Eats and DoorDash, but with gas prices, it feels like I’m losing money instead of earning it. Recently, I thought I found the perfect job that offered great pay, weekly payments, good benefits, and independence. I had a group interview via Google Meets, but after waiting for a response, I received a generic rejection email after following up for two and a half days. I’ve rescheduled another interview with them for next week, and I plan to be proactive this time, asking more direct questions about what they’re looking for. I’m feeling lost and overwhelmed, especially since it’s the offseason here and my savings have been depleted for months. Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

I received a call from a temp agency regarding one of the many jobs I applied for. They mentioned that I might not be the best fit because I lack experience in the field, and the client is looking for someone more seasoned. However, they mentioned that I could potentially still get an interview. I found it a bit strange that they would call me if they already felt I wasn't a good match. Since then, I noticed they posted another job that aligns better with my skills, so I plan to tailor my CV for that position. I'm curious if I would be speaking to the same agent if they call me for that job, as I didn't appreciate the tone he used during our conversation. He even questioned why I wanted to work in the field, to which I explained that I'm pursuing a relevant degree. A friend of mine landed a similar job without any experience, so I believe anything is possible. However, I'm unsure if I should even attend the interview if they already know I'm not their preferred candidate and won't provide training. Should I go for it?

I’m currently in a tough spot at my job. I’ve been managing a store and warehouse for a company that was recently bought out, and my new boss is unbearable. Think of every bad boss you’ve ever had, and that’s him—micromanaging, disorganized, and just plain difficult to work with. It's gotten to the point where my coworkers and I can’t stand him, and I know that if I leave, the place will probably fall apart. The good news is that I’m interviewing for a new position at a great company with a significant pay increase and excellent benefits. A close friend of mine works there, and I feel pretty confident about getting an offer. Now I'm torn about whether to give my current employer a two-week notice or just resign immediately once I secure the new job. I’m leaning towards the immediate resignation because I really want to avoid any further stress from my current boss. However, I’m also aware that giving notice is the professional thing to do, even if my current work environment is toxic. I’ve seen mixed opinions on this. Some say to always give two weeks, as burning bridges can come back to haunt you, while others suggest that with my situation, it might not matter as much. I want to make the right choice, but I’m also ready to take a break and enjoy some time off after leaving this job. I’m just waiting to finalize the new position before making any moves.

I am currently an FP&A professional with 2 years of experience, working at an Indian MNC. Lately, I've been feeling frustrated with my job due to my manager's micromanagement and the lack of career and monetary growth opportunities in my organization. I've been trying to switch jobs for the past 2 months, but it's been tough. I've sent out countless cold emails, reached out to people on LinkedIn, and applied to hundreds of positions on Naukri, yet I haven't received a single response or interview invitation. It's disheartening to see others on LinkedIn announcing their job changes while I feel stuck. I'm reaching out in hopes of finding someone who can provide guidance on a more effective job search strategy, as my current approach isn't yielding any results.

I recently graduated from high school and I'm on the hunt for my first part-time job. I've got interviews lined up with Nordstrom Rack for a position in the back of the store and with an eyeglasses store as a sales associate. I'm feeling a bit unsure about how to make a strong impression during these interviews. While I've participated in extracurricular activities, I don't have any standout achievements to highlight. I'm hoping to gather some tips on how to stand out as a candidate. One suggestion I received was to research the eyeglasses and the history of the store, which I plan to do.

I applied for a higher-level sales position at a larger company about six days ago. After submitting my application, I followed up with a phone call and left a voicemail since no one answered. I'm considering whether I should send a follow-up email, as I know voicemails can easily get overlooked. I also reached out to the HR department, but I suspect that either the CEO or the Sales Manager is handling the hiring process based on my research. I'm trying to balance being proactive without coming off as annoying, especially since this is a local headquarters. I appreciate any advice on the timing for a follow-up email!

I’ve been working in retail for the past five years while attending college, and now I’m applying for internships that require references from my current job. I thought I had a good relationship with my General Manager and supervisor, especially since I've always been reliable, never called off, and even covered shifts when needed. However, when I reached out to them two days ago for references, they just read my messages without responding. It feels like they might not want to help because they think I’ll leave if I get the internship, which is disappointing. I didn’t expect this reaction, especially since it’s common for staff at our store to move on to other opportunities. Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? Any advice on how to handle this would be appreciated!
