I’m currently working as a paralegal, and while the job is decent, I feel trapped by the golden handcuffs. In my free time, I love tinkering with computers and have even started a side hustle repairing electronics. I've made a few sales, but it’s nowhere near enough to replace my salary. My real passion lies in electronics repair and tech, but the pay for these jobs is so low that I wouldn’t even be able to cover my rent. I genuinely want to break into the tech field, but I feel overwhelmed. I have a strong interest in technology and computer science, and I often find myself more passionate about it than many computer science majors who don’t seem to engage in personal projects like I do. It’s frustrating to think that I’m doing this as a hobby while trying to figure out how to transition into a career. The main hurdle for me is that I have tech skills but no degree to back them up. My educational background is in psychology, which doesn’t help my case in tech. I’m eager to know what steps others have taken to get into tech without formal degrees or certifications, as I believe I would excel in this field if given the chance.

I was recently contacted by a recruiter about a job opportunity that caught my attention. However, I've been hearing mixed reviews about the company, which has made me hesitant. When I called to discuss the role, the recruiter had a strong accent that made it difficult for me to understand him. While I found job listings for this position and it seems legitimate, I'm still unsure if I should pursue it. I reached out to some friends for advice, and one of them suggested that while the job might be real, the recruiter could be just resume farming and that I shouldn't expect much from the opportunity. I'm feeling a bit stuck on what to do next.

I recently received a provisional offer from BNY for a role in Pittsburgh, and I confirmed my willingness to relocate the same day. It's been about a week now, and I'm still waiting for the official offer letter. I'm curious about how long it typically takes for BNY to send out the official documents after a provisional offer. Is a week a normal timeframe, or should I reach out to HR for an update? I'd love to hear from anyone who has gone through this process.

I’ve been struggling to land interviews as a finance professional, specifically in my role as an FP&A Manager. With 6 years of experience and a degree in accounting from a top university, I thought my qualifications would help me stand out. However, after months of applying to various positions, including senior financial analyst roles, I’ve faced numerous auto-rejections. I did manage to get one interview for an SFA position, but I was told I had 'too much experience' for the role. I’ve had my resume reviewed and made suggested updates, but it hasn’t made a difference. I’ve also been in touch with recruiters who suggest jobs, but they often ghost me and don’t follow up with the details. It’s disheartening, and I can’t help but wonder if the job market is as bad as it seems. I’m at a loss for what to do next.

I recently had an interesting experience with a recruiter from LTV Plus who reached out to me about a customer service manager position I had applied for on LinkedIn. After expressing my interest, I was sent a list of standard interview questions to answer and return. To my surprise, I later received an email from the head of HR offering me the job without any face-to-face interview. This raised a red flag for me as it felt too good to be true, especially considering the pay rate. I started to wonder if this was standard practice for remote staffing agencies like LTV Plus. I reached out to the community for insights and received numerous comments warning me that this is likely a scam. Many pointed out that legitimate companies do not hire based solely on questionnaire responses without conducting interviews. They advised me to be cautious, as the scenario sounded like a classic fake job and check scam, where I could end up losing money. I appreciate the feedback and will be reporting the job listing to protect myself and others.

I recently interviewed for a diesel trailer trainee position, leveraging my 2.5 years of trailer experience. The interview went well, and I was informed that I might be overqualified but they still wanted me on the team. After that, I spoke with the recruiter and completed a physical exam, where the doctor confirmed I was healthy and fit for the job. I was told that if everything went smoothly, I essentially had the job. However, after a week of waiting without any updates, I reached out to the recruiter only to find that I've been completely ghosted. It's frustrating and surprising to be left in the dark like this.

I just had my hearing scheduled for my unemployment appeal after being laid off from my job in Texas. I was asked to sign a lengthy contract to receive severance, which included a clause stating that I wouldn't sue the company. This contract also extended my employment technically for another month. Now, Texas is saying I'm ineligible for unemployment benefits for a certain number of weeks, based on the severance amount. I'm arguing that according to the Texas Unemployment Act, the severance I received shouldn't count against my eligibility because it was part of a contract signed before my separation date. Specifically, I'm referencing Sec. 207.049 (b), which clarifies what constitutes severance pay. My situation seems to fit the criteria that my severance shouldn't disqualify me from receiving unemployment benefits. I’m looking for feedback on whether my approach seems reasonable as I prepare for the hearing in a few weeks.

I am currently appealing a denial for unemployment benefits in Nevada after being terminated from my job. My employer claimed I was discharged for misconduct, citing that I refused to continue my overdue performance review, was disruptive and hostile towards coworkers, and created a negative work environment. They also stated that I walked out when I was terminated. However, my experience differs significantly. The performance review was overdue by several months, and I had been actively requesting it via email. During the meeting, I did become emotional and stepped away briefly to regain my composure, but I did not quit or abandon my job. I continued to work for over a week after that meeting and even asked my supervisor if my job was in jeopardy, to which I was told to keep coming to work. I firmly deny being hostile or insubordinate. When I initially filed for unemployment, I only submitted a written statement and did not receive a phone interview from the unemployment office before my claim was denied. For my appeal, I have gathered several documents including emails requesting my overdue performance review, my actual performance review, the corrective action and termination paperwork, and a written timeline of events. I am seeking advice on what additional documents I should submit for my appeal. Should I organize everything into a timeline with exhibits? Has anyone successfully appealed a misconduct determination when the employer's account of events was disputed? Any insights from those who have navigated a Nevada unemployment appeal would be greatly appreciated.

Today, I took a step back to reflect on my current situation. I was working as a server when I sustained nerve damage in my foot. Unfortunately, this injury has made it impossible for me to wear non-slip shoes or stand for long periods, which is essential for my job. After discussing my limitations with my employer, we mutually agreed that it was best for me to leave my position since they couldn't accommodate my needs with a different role. Now, I find myself in a tough spot. I am actively searching for jobs that won't require me to be on my feet all day, but I also need to apply for unemployment benefits to help cover my bills during this transition. I'm unsure how to present my situation when applying for these benefits. Should I say I was fired or that I quit? I want to be honest but also ensure I have a good chance of being approved. I'm currently undergoing physical therapy and working with my doctors to improve my condition, but the timeline for recovery is uncertain. It could take months, or my injury might be permanent. I'm hoping to get some guidance on how to navigate this process and what language to use when applying for unemployment.

Today, I received an Outlook invite for a group photo in front of our office, which is about to shut down. Our team of around 400 people is facing layoffs or the option to relocate 300 miles away if we want to keep our jobs. It feels surreal that they want to capture this moment for marketing purposes while we're all dealing with the stress of potential job loss. The comments from my colleagues reflect the frustration and disbelief; many are suggesting we should protest with our middle fingers up. It's disheartening to see how disconnected management is from the reality we're facing.

I recently hit a wall after just three months working at an inbound renters insurance call center. I took this job because I needed to get back to work quickly, but I quickly realized it’s not where I want to build my career. I have about seven years of sales experience, including four years in property and casualty insurance, and I came in already licensed and experienced in selling multiple lines of insurance. However, my daily tasks consist solely of answering inbound calls to sell renters insurance, which feels more like processing transactions than being an actual insurance agent. The lack of opportunity for cross-selling and relationship building is frustrating. I also feel demotivated by the commission structure, which caps at $500 per month, regardless of how many policies I sell. I’m averaging around 200 policies a month, but once I hit that cap, there’s no incentive to keep pushing. On top of that, the technology at the company is unreliable. There have been days where I couldn't work at all due to system outages, which has negatively impacted my performance. The PTO policy is another letdown; I’ve accumulated about 10 days but can’t use any until next year, and even then, getting a day off approved is a hassle. I’m grateful to have a job, but I know this role isn’t a long-term fit for me. I’m currently finishing my bachelor’s degree and studying for my Florida 2-20 General Lines license, as I want to continue growing in my career. I genuinely enjoy insurance sales when I can educate clients and be rewarded for my performance. I’ve been applying to various insurance companies and other sales roles, but so far, I haven’t had much luck with interviews or offers. If anyone knows of companies hiring licensed agents in Florida, especially in personal lines, commercial insurance, or account management, I’d love to hear about them. I’m open to remote opportunities as well as positions in South Florida. If you’ve been in a similar situation and found a way out of the call center environment, I would really appreciate your insights.

I recently filed a claim for unemployment benefits in Illinois, but I encountered an issue when I clicked "File my claim." The page hung for a while and then displayed an error message saying "ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED." I’m worried that my claim may not have gone through since I haven’t received any confirmation email yet. Has anyone else experienced this issue? What should I do next?

I recently found myself in a complicated situation regarding my unemployment claim as a tipped employee in Pennsylvania. I was fired from my job, where I worked as a server, primarily due to lateness. However, the circumstances surrounding my termination are quite nuanced. A week before my firing, there was an altercation with a coworker that may have influenced my employer's decision. Interestingly, I was cited for being late to my shift, but this was after I had already clocked in late on a previous occasion. I'm unsure if I have a valid case for unemployment benefits given these details and would appreciate any insights or advice from others who might have faced a similar situation.

I filed for unemployment in New Jersey several weeks ago and was told to start certifying for benefits the week of July 1st. I was overseas at the time, but I set up remote access to my system to ensure I could complete the certification on time. However, almost a week later, I kept getting a generic error message stating, "Your certification cannot be processed." This issue started on July 1st and continued through July 2nd, right after two back-to-back maintenance updates, so I initially thought it might be related to that. I finally returned home and tried to call the support line for assistance, but when I called shortly after 4:00 PM, I was informed that the call center was already closed, even though their hours stated they were open until 4:30 PM. This has been incredibly frustrating, especially since I remember seeing others mention similar issues in the past, but I haven't seen any recent discussions about it. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I just got laid off again after almost a year in my role as a contractor. I had previously been out of work for three months before landing this position, which eventually turned into a permanent role. Now, just 11 months and 14 days later, I'm back on the job market. I'm really hoping it won't take as long to find something this time around. I've been hearing that the job market is still tough, and I'm feeling a bit anxious about it.

Last week, I learned that CDW has conducted another significant layoff, reportedly affecting around 750 employees. While the company hasn't officially confirmed the number, the rumors circulating suggest a substantial impact on the workforce. It's disheartening to see such a large number of colleagues facing job loss.

It's been a month since I was laid off from my role at a tech company where I worked for over a decade. Since then, I've only heard from one former coworker, and they weren't even on my team. I was hoping to get some LinkedIn recommendations from my colleagues, but I'm hesitant to reach out and ask for them. I did try contacting my manager for support, but I was disappointed when I didn't receive a response. It feels isolating, and I'm starting to realize that the connections I thought I had may not be as strong as I believed.

I was laid off from my job after just one month of employment in Illinois. I'm wondering if I can file for unemployment benefits given the short duration of my job. I've heard mixed opinions on this, with some people saying they were able to get unemployment after working for only a few days in other states. I'm hoping to find out if I can apply and what my chances are of receiving benefits.

I recently had a challenging experience while working on a nonprofit project. I was responsible for building their entire platform at a reduced cost, which I thought would be a great opportunity to showcase my skills. Unfortunately, I was pushed out of the project midway through, and this decision has had significant repercussions on my career. Since then, I have lost two job opportunities that I was pursuing. It's frustrating how one negative experience can create such a domino effect in my professional life.

I recently started a new job as a [specific role] at [company name] and I’m feeling really blindsided by the experience so far. I’ve only been here for two weeks, but it’s been quite overwhelming. When I first spoke with HR, they mentioned a 30-45 minute lunch break, which was shorter than my previous job's one-hour break but still seemed manageable. However, on my first day, I found out that the actual lunch break is just 20 minutes. This has left me feeling exhausted throughout the day. I also have caring responsibilities and had made it clear during the hiring process that I would need some flexibility. HR agreed to accommodate this, but when I’ve requested to work from home, my manager has denied my requests. He works from home three times a week himself, but insists that I need to be in the office for training with a colleague who hasn’t spoken to me since my first week. To complicate matters, I have pre-approved annual leave coming up, and my manager seems unhappy about it. He has changed the expectations from needing to be in the office for a month to now extending that period, which is really confusing for me. Additionally, I had a conversation with my manager about adjusting my hours from 9 to 5 to 8:30 to 4:30. He didn’t object at the time, but later brought it up in a one-on-one, saying I should have asked him instead of just informing him. Lastly, there’s been some confusion regarding my contract. I signed a document that stated 48 hours from Monday to Sunday, which seemed odd to me. When I asked HR about it, they explained that it’s a standard casual worker contract that they give to full-time employees as well. However, my manager thinks I received the wrong contract. I’m starting to wonder if I’m just being naive or if this is typical corporate behavior. This is only my second professional job, and I’m feeling quite exhausted from all the uncertainty. I even had ChatGPT help me draft an email to clarify these issues, but I’m just feeling overwhelmed.
