I finally landed a job after an exhausting search that started last November. After submitting hundreds of applications and going through three interviews, I got an offer at a job fair. I have five years of experience as a machine operator, but they offered me a different position instead. I accepted it, hoping to eventually move up to the operator role. Orientation started on Monday, and it raised a lot of red flags for me. They mentioned that nearly the entire third shift staff was fired, along with many from other shifts, and that most upper management and supervisors were gone too. This left the HR department overwhelmed, and I found it difficult to reach them since their desks always went to voicemail. The orientation was primarily conducted in Spanish due to the large number of Spanish-speaking workers, and I was the only one who couldn't understand it. Some questions were asked in Spanish without translation, which made me feel excluded. When we moved on to safety training, I was sent home because they didn’t have anyone available to show me the English safety training videos. HR promised to call me later to set it up, but I never received that call. I called them today and left a voicemail, but still no response. Tonight, I’m supposed to go in for training on the floor without having completed the safety training. While I have experience in a plant setting, this is a different environment with different products, so I’m feeling quite anxious about it. I can't help but feel there are significant red flags here. I'm still applying for other jobs, but this is the only offer I've received after months of searching. Just looking for some reassurance or advice.

I came across a list of companies that are laying off employees this September. Some notable names include Amazon, Meta, and FedEx, along with others like Kroger and Chick-fil-A. It seems many of these layoffs are linked to WARN Notices, indicating that the layoffs may have already taken place for some companies, particularly the larger ones like Amazon and Oracle. Those affected will likely receive severance pay up until the date of those notices. It's concerning to see such a long list of companies making cuts.

I recently transitioned from working at an advertising agency to a sales position at a news station, seeking new challenges and experiences in my 20s. Unfortunately, this move has turned out to be quite difficult. For months, I struggled to receive proper training and support from my manager, which led to feelings of burnout by May 2026. The environment became toxic, with colleagues who had been there for over a decade treating me with a lack of respect. After expressing my concerns to my manager, he suggested I take a vacation, which provided temporary relief until I faced a panic attack triggered by reading work emails. My parents, who have corporate experience, advised me to 'push back' while adhering to the rules, so I did just that. However, my Director of Sales and manager accused me of not being a team player for simply following the established procedures. They provided no context for their claims, and I felt unfairly judged. Things escalated when my director mandated that I report my daily activities every morning and evening, despite him already being included in many of my emails. This micromanagement is frustrating, especially when I know I'm working hard. I've learned that a former colleague faced similar stress and ended up quitting. While I'm not at that point yet, I'm planning to keep my head down and appease them while I search for a new job. In hindsight, I wish I had read the Glassdoor reviews before accepting this position, as they seem to reflect the reality of working at this news station.

I've been feeling the pressure at my job lately, and it's becoming clear that I'm being quietly pushed out. I work in a team where the environment has been deteriorating for months due to poor decisions from leadership. We're facing increased workloads, tighter deadlines, and a complete lack of support from other departments. Recently, I discovered that a new higher-up has been undermining my authority and assigning more work to my team without my knowledge. It's frustrating because I don't understand why this is happening, and the reasons seem so petty that it's hard to believe they could motivate such behavior. The demands from leadership are becoming impossible to meet, and I feel like I'm being set up for failure. Last week was chaotic, and this week is already proving to be the worst I've ever experienced at work. I know they could let me go at any moment, but they don't have a valid reason to do so, so they keep piling on the pressure. Despite my efforts to deliver, I'm hanging by a thread, and I'm terrified of losing my job. It's heartbreaking because I genuinely care about my work and know I'm good at it. I just needed to get this off my chest.

I recently suffered a serious injury while attending a work social event that involved sports. I tore a ligament and can barely walk, relying on crutches to get around my home. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for tomorrow, but I've been warned that recovery could be lengthy and may require surgery, which I hope to avoid. For now, I was allowed to work remotely for the next two days, but my boss informed me that I cannot continue to work from home after Monday. This arrangement was made directly with my boss and not through HR, which has left me uncertain about whether I should go through HR for accommodations or simply request sick leave. I'm really anxious about the possibility of losing my job. My office is not easily accessible, as it’s located on a corporate campus with steep stairs and long distances between buildings. I also can’t drive right now, and taking an Uber would be financially burdensome. I know I could perform my job at about 95% efficiency from home, but the company has strict in-person attendance policies. I’m contemplating whether I should bypass discussions with my boss and go straight to HR to discuss my need for accommodations or sick leave. Is it reasonable to expect someone in my condition to struggle to get to the office when it would take me an hour to hobble there? That's where I'm at right now.

I'm currently working as a cook in a late-night kitchen in a small town, and I'm juggling two jobs while dreaming of pursuing a career in academia as an anthropologist. My current job keeps me busy until late on weekdays and even longer on weekends, which makes it tough to manage my time. I received a call this morning about my dream job, but I'm unsure how to transition since I can't just leave my current position. The kitchen is understaffed, and my boss frequently changes my hours and days off, adding to my stress. I also pick up occasional shifts at a bookstore, but it's not enough to make ends meet. I'm looking for advice on how to navigate this situation and make my dream a reality.

I recently changed my unemployment payment method from direct deposit to a debit card, and now I'm facing some confusion. Initially, it showed that my payment was processed on the 20th, but as of today, the 25th, it still says it's processing. I'm concerned that this change might be affecting when I receive my funds. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? How long did it take for you to get your payments after making a change like this?

I've been on the job hunt for a while now, applying to numerous positions, but I'm starting to feel really discouraged. I often find myself waiting for weeks, sometimes even months, without any response. Just recently, I applied for a role through a company's website and they reached out to me, saying my application looked great but they needed my actual resume. Unfortunately, I couldn't upload it because the file was too large. After that, I didn't hear anything back from them, despite following up for updates. Today, I received a rejection for a job I applied for back in June. It feels like my applications are just disappearing into a void. I can't help but wonder why this has become the norm in the job market. The ghosting from employers is incredibly frustrating, and I feel like I'm just applying to black holes. It seems like there are so many candidates for every job that my application is just one among thousands, and I can't shake the feeling that this process is becoming increasingly impersonal.

I recently started a new office job about six months ago, and while my boss is incredibly kind and allows me to work from home when I have migraines, I absolutely dread going to work every day. I feel constantly on edge and have been struggling with depression. I used to work in a high-intensity medical job, which I thought I hated, but now I realize I was just burnt out and needed a break. I still hold my license and have picked up a part-time per diem job on weekends, which pays significantly more and gives me the chance to further my education. I'm planning to put in my two weeks' notice, but today I'm really fighting the urge to just walk out. I've cried at work twice this week, and I just want my life back. I feel guilty about leaving my boss with loose ends because they've been so supportive. I know I need to focus on wrapping things up to make my exit as smooth as possible, but it's tough when I feel this way.

Today, I learned that Starbucks offered a tough choice to its Seattle employees: relocate to Nashville or face layoffs. Unfortunately, over 120 workers chose to decline the move, resulting in more than 200 layoffs. It’s disheartening to see such a significant number of people losing their jobs due to company decisions. I can only imagine the difficult conversations and decisions these employees had to make regarding their futures.

I got laid off today, which has been a tough experience for me. Along with 40 other colleagues, I lost my position as a Process/Project Engineer at my company. I'm currently based in the UAE and I'm feeling quite overwhelmed by the situation. I'm reaching out to my network for any help, referrals, or leads that could assist me in finding a new job. I'm actively seeking urgent opportunities and would greatly appreciate any support or connections. If anyone is willing to help, I can share my expertise and CV through direct message. Thank you in advance for any assistance!

I recently took a new job in television, moving from a graphic designer role in marketing where I worked for two years. The decision was primarily motivated by a significant salary increase of $10,000, along with better benefits like PTO and a 401K. My previous position had limited financial growth opportunities, and I thought the new role would enhance my resume. However, I'm starting to regret this choice. I remember the fast-paced environment of my first job out of college at a production studio, which was challenging for me due to my OCD. I managed to stick it out for two years until I was laid off, but it took a toll on my personal life. Now, I'm worried that returning to a high-pressure job will set back my progress in managing my mental health. I have a good relationship with my former boss, who mentioned she would reach out if there were any open salaried positions. I'm considering contacting her to see if there's a chance to return to my old role before it's filled. I feel torn between the financial benefits of my new job and my need for emotional stability. I know I should probably give it more time, but I'm anxious about closing the door on my previous job.

I was laid off from Oracle as an M3 back in March, just two days before I was scheduled for knee replacement surgery. After finally settling my severance, I reported it to the Texas Workforce Commission, as required. Oracle needed to confirm that my severance was a one-time payment, but they never responded to either my request for confirmation or my initial unemployment benefits application filed in April. As a result, the state cut off my benefits and even sent me a bill for $2500 to pay back what I had received. Now, Oracle is asking me to contact the state to change the contact address, but the state pulls this information from the employer's federal unemployment number, which is all electronic in Texas. Has anyone else experienced something similar in Texas or elsewhere? I would appreciate any feedback.

I got laid off from my role at a large company about a month ago, and honestly, it hit me out of nowhere. I had been performing well, juggling everything from project planning to defining product strategies and writing user stories. Despite my contributions, I was the only one from my team who was let go, and the reason given was budget cuts and restructuring. It’s disheartening to think that I was so easily replaced, but I can’t help but wonder if my teammates miss me. I did a lot of the heavy lifting, and while I felt underappreciated at the time, I hope they realize how much I was doing now that I'm not there. I know that in corporate environments, people come and go, but a part of me wishes that my absence is felt, even just a little. Has anyone else experienced this feeling after a layoff?

I recently reflected on my previous job experience that left me with significant anxiety about future roles. I was working at a marketing agency on a fixed-term contract, despite having no prior marketing background. They hired me because they appreciated my eagerness to learn, but the lack of training made things challenging. Initially, I received positive feedback and passed my probation in just one month, but then I was unexpectedly placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). The environment was tough; a colleague I was supposed to learn from often ignored my requests for help, and another called me 'clueless' for asking basic questions. A director who had been friendly during the interview process suddenly became distant, which added to my confusion. I’m usually reserved when starting a new job, but I try to be friendly and avoid drama, so I struggled to understand if I genuinely underperformed or if it was a result of poor management. This experience has made me hyperaware of how others perceive my work, and I worry about repeating the same mistakes in future roles. Currently, I’m in a corporate development/M&A position, and things are going well. I have a supportive manager and great colleagues, which has been a relief. However, I still carry the anxiety of potentially ending up in a similar situation again. I’m curious if others have faced similar transitions between companies or industries and how they managed their anxiety and perceptions of performance.

I just received a cold call from a recruiter who found my LinkedIn profile. They want to set up a Teams meeting to discuss some job openings in my area, and I agreed to it. However, they also requested that I provide two managerial references and two coworker references before the meeting. I find this a bit odd, as I believe references are typically requested later in the hiring process. While I could manage to get two coworker references, I don't have any managerial ones. I'm currently unemployed and unsure if I should ignore their request or inform them that I don't have the references they want. Some people think it's suspicious to ask for references before even having an interview, and I'm starting to feel the same way. Should I proceed with caution?

I was laid off last year from my role as a marketing coordinator at a mid-sized tech company. The experience hit me hard, and I’m still processing the emotions tied to that unexpected change. To cope, I started writing poetry, and I recently drafted a piece that captures my feelings about the layoff. It reflects the uncertainty and the journey of finding my footing again in the job market. Writing has been therapeutic, helping me articulate the mix of loss and hope I feel as I navigate this new chapter.

I recently received a call from a company in Noida Sector 90 for a face-to-face interview scheduled for the 27th. I’m a fresher looking for MERN/Full Stack roles and have been unemployed for 15 months, so I’m eager to get back into the workforce. During the initial call, I answered some basic MERN questions, and they asked if I was comfortable relocating to Noida, which I am, as it’s about 150 km from my home. However, I have some concerns about the company. After doing some research, I found very little information about them online, and they seem to have only been operating since 2023 with a small team. The salary they offer for freshers is around ₹1.5–2.1 LPA, and the work schedule is 6 days a week from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM. I also came across some employee reviews that mentioned issues with overtime and delayed salary payments. I’m torn about whether I should attend the interview, considering I might not want to accept the job if those reviews are accurate. On one hand, I’ve been out of work for a long time, and getting any opportunity feels crucial. On the other hand, I don’t want to waste time and money traveling for an interview that I might not follow through on. I’m looking for advice on whether I should go for the interview or skip it.

I was recently laid off from Visa during their mass layoffs in July. It was communicated to me that my compensation was significantly higher than what Visa typically offered for engineers at my experience level, which contributed to my being impacted as part of their restructuring efforts. I have over 4 years of experience as a software engineer, having worked at Visa and a mid-sized product-based startup. Currently, I'm based in Bangalore and I'm actively seeking my next opportunity. I'm looking for SDE-2 or equivalent backend roles, preferably in Bangalore or remote positions. My tech stack includes Java, Spring Boot, Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS. My experience has primarily focused on scalable distributed backend systems and LLM applications, including RAG, guardrail, and large computer vision model inference pipelines. If anyone knows of any openings or could refer me to a hiring manager or team looking for SDE-2 backend roles, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm happy to share my resume over DM.

Today, I reflected on my past experiences with anxiety stemming from a previous job. I once worked at a marketing agency on a fixed-term contract, despite having no background in marketing. They chose me for my enthusiasm and willingness to learn, but I received minimal training and had to navigate most challenges on my own. Initially, I passed my probation with positive feedback, but then I was unexpectedly placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). The situation was confusing; I felt unsupported by colleagues who often ignored my requests for help, and one even called me 'clueless' for asking questions. A director who had been friendly during the interview turned cold, leaving me unsure if I genuinely underperformed or if there were other issues at play. This experience left me anxious about my work performance, making me hyper-aware of my colleagues' perceptions. Now, I’m in a completely different role in corporate development/M&A, where I thrive under a supportive manager and have great colleagues. Yet, I still worry that my next job might mirror my past negative experience. I want to understand how to differentiate between genuine underperformance and being in a poorly managed environment. I’m also curious if these experiences vary by industry or company culture. Has anyone else transitioned between such different environments and found a stark contrast in their experiences?
